Rainy day
So another rainy day... Stopped counting. Last chance to fish for a while and I was going no matter what. Went back to the stream I fished on opening day that did not blow-out. Figured it was the closest to home which had the best chance of being fishable. The 1 hr 15 minute drive into Warren Co was $20 in gas round trip, but I didn't care.
Today was all about a quality fishing experience. I was not in it for the numbers, like some days I'll admit. My goal was simple, catch a trout in a run that I hadn't before. Rain fell almost constantly from the time I arrived at 7:15 to departure around noon. No wind, thankfully. Creek was generally clear and high. Perfect in my opinion. Plenty of water over their backs to hide my mistakes.
Started out in the lower reaches where more trout are stocked, just to warm up. Caught a nice 11" brookie on the 2nd cast. Well the skunk was not on me, but I had caught fish in that hole before. Moved downstream to all my "go-to" spots. Only a swat from a pesky brown as I lifted the line out of water. No other hits there. Decided to move upstream to another popular spot. Many casts later and finally had a follow on a retrieve. Dropped the line and let it sink to watch another brookie attack. Very cool and I was happy to prove that the first fish was not a fluke.
With a couple landed I pressed my luck upstream to new waters for me. Further than I had wandered before, possibly higher than the stocking buckets ventured. Did not find any takers for several spots. Many holes looked great only to be filled with snags. Eventually came upon a run that just looked too good to be true. I thought, I'm going to catch one here for sure. Few drifts later and I tied into a dandy brown. Couldn't tell if it was a hold-over or recently stocked. Didn't care. My goal was achieved. Ended up landing 2 other browns in this spot, one over 13". Ventured further upstream and caught a few more. Yes it was a good day. All fish were returned embarrassed, but unharmed.
First attempt at posting pics. Hopefully this works.
