Three rods in Pa.

Folks

For those who have asked:

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (www.fish.state.pa.us) will hold its spring quarterly meeting on April 11-12 at its Harrisburg office. Committees will meet on April 11 and early on April 12. Formal consideration of the agenda will begin at approximately 11:20 a.m. on April 12. All committee meetings and the formal meeting are open to the public.
Commissioners will address a variety of issues during Tuesday’s formal meeting, including a recommendation to approve a final rulemaking order which would allow anglers to use three rods when fishing. Current regulations allow for the use of two rods.

Thanks to all who provided comment.

    Folks

In formal action today (April 12), Pennsylvania’s fish commissioners approved “Regulations which will allow anglers to use three rods when fishing, effective Jan. 1, 2012. Current regulations allow for the use of two rods.”

    Congratulations!

It would have been nice if that was limited to boat fishing. The last thing people need around restricted shore access areas is for people to spread another rod out wide to block people out.

I have mixed feelings on this one. Great for boaters, not so great for shore fishermen in congested areas.

"A Homewood man led police on an hourlong car chase that ended with a crash injuring three officers.

"The car was driving itself," Wright said. "The car has a GPS. It's a Lincoln Navigator. They drive themselves. I wasn't running nowhere."

Maybe I can now bogart about 50 yds of stream behind Uncle John's next year so I can make my "hero drifts"! Alex = 3 rods...Marina = 3 rods and Christian = 3 rods....If I can talk the 'ol lady to come with 3 more rods, I might have from the tubes to the wall covered and all to myself!

Could be interesting in some arenas, but it will be nice for trolling. Always seemed like wasting fuel when you only had two guys on the boat and 4 rods out...

In all seriousness, trolling is the only arena I would take advantage of the new rule. I believe most would be the same way.

Yeah, even on the boat, I can hardly keep up with a decent panfish bite with 2 rods.

Trolling, it will be nice to mix in that third rod straight off the back in the smaller lakes but, getting a snag will be a chinese fire drill getting the other lines in and backtracking.

Great!!! I own about 30 rods now with current regs. Now I have to get around 15 more to average out.

cant wait to see what the wall at walnut looks like with everyone using 3 rods...it a madhouse already with people using and not being able to control 2 each

It's not how deep you fish...It's how you wiggle your worm.

I like the way you think!!

Will be nice with only 2 of on the boat trolling the main lake, and maybe use sometimes when trying to figure out what fish are in the mood for bait wise (boat) fishing the river for cats then back to two, but that's about it.

I wonder how many people will lose rods to fish? I know not everyone uses rod holders and such. I've got a buddy that just sets his rods on the ground and hopes that the rocks catch them if he can't get to it in time.

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Thanks to those who originally brought this proposal to the PFBC and then persevered when it was rejected initially.  Remember it was a group of primarily carp bank anglers that spearheaded this initiative, so anyone who takes advantage of this rule change in the future knows who's to thank.  I plan on taking advantage of it when the situation permits.
