bamboo spey rod

My brother got a 14' #9 house of hardy bamboo spey rod for his birthday. We took it out on the grass and I had a 10 weight hardy wf line to throw on it. It was casting pretty sweet but grass is never a true test. We can't wait to get it out on the water. Does anyone have any suggestions for lines? Thanks in advance.

How much doesn't something like cost? Sounds like one heck of a nice birthday gift...

Didn't ask my father. I know he got it on ebay. Now that you mentioned it im going to have to ask him. I guess we're going to just trial and error an assortment of lines we already have. I have a feeling the #10 at is going to do just fine.

i'd go over to speypages and ask around

My guess (not being a long-belly guy)...
a single hand WF line is not what you are looking for... its the wrong (actually opposite) taper for a 2hander

the rod is probably more suited to traditional casting
look for a DT spey line... i have some old cortland that are 9s and 10s
OR a long line... rio powerspey or airflo detla long

i'm guessing this is not the rod for skagit and scandi

just found out he got it for 250. What a steel. For some odd reason he was the only bidder andthere was no reserve on it. Ill take a few pics sometime and post it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have a hardy double taper in a 9 and 12 but they are at my camp 4 hours away so we can't try them until next weekend. Agree wiith you also kj, I don't think a modern line will match up to this rod. I just can't wait to stick one with it. Im also in the in the process of tying up a 689 and a 573 boo blanks to play around with some summer smallies and a possible slam or atlantic. Thanks again guys...
