Lake Arthur Crappie
Was looking for some help and/or some tips for targeting crappie on lake arthur. This is my first full fishing season with a boat and I am starting to explore more lakes and species of fish. I went out on Monday for crappie and managed 3 bass and my dad caught a perch. We fished near the shoreline in bays and around fallen trees using minnows on a bobber on the north shore. We did not catch any crappie. Plus, I do not have a fish finder which makes it difficult. Any help is appreciated or you can PM me. below is the pics of fish

Went out again yesterday for a few hours and only managed one perch. Lake was a little windy. Going to keep trying and heading back out later this week. There are quite a bit of views and no posts. Any help appreciated.

Try the deeper water out off the structure...the fish are still in transition at the lake I have been fishing and are holding in deeper water.

Haven't hit them at Arthur since ice, but it has been on and off in the shallows at a certain lake that is about to close for a week or so. Like someone said earlier, I'd try fishing the deeper stuff beyond the 528 bridge till the end of next week or so. Then start thinking shallow.

Been out twice in the last week. GOOD NEWS: Finally managed to catch some crappie. BAD NEWS: the 20 or so crappie we caught were small avg. around 6 inches. Water temps were 43 deg. and fish were caught in 13 ft. of water. We caught crappie, perch, largemouth, and small stripers all in the same spot. Are larger crappie around/in the same school or do I need to move on to a different spot? Still trying.

Black Crappie will move to the shallows earlier than the Whitey's! This is typically when the water is much warmer 55 to 60 degrees is peak time. I would drift minnows on a floating jig rig, spider some jig heads and twisters in deeper water. Get a typo map and fish the creek channels or just off them. And mark them when you find them, so you can drift that same spot more than once. I know the feeling of trying to remember that last spot where you hooked up @. Usually a 1/16oz jig will work, the more lively the minnow the better. After you marked a few you could anchor up and try a suspended minnow under a sliding bobber.

outfishya, launch at old 422 launch.there are big rocks people fish off. go past the rocks and look to your right.there are trees lying in the water along the shoreline.did good there a few years ago in spring wading. caught some nice crappie. near the shoreline on the opposite side in about 10ft. are a bunch of brush piles that should harbor some crappie. there is also a few coves on that side with beaver huts along shoreline.hope this helps. there are some good areas around the 528 launch too.

We didn't slay them yesterday, but all the ones that we brought home were real quality fish. Smallest one was pushing 11 inches and the largest one just under 15 inches. We got them all on bobbers about two feet down with minnies, in about six to eight feet of water. Our new spots that we found ice fishing have panned out to be worthless so far, but I'm still optomistic that they'll produce sometime this year. It would be nice to have some spots where we could catch crappies after they leave the shallows. Boy did that wind suck! We ended having to drop two anchors and put my trolling motor on autopilot on a four or five speed just to stay roughly in one spot.
