Some English grouse and a black pheasant

Hi All,

To lighten the mood of these threads, and get us off deer, crossbows, and the PGC, I thought I'd post some recent bird pictures. My sister was in town the past few days and as we do with most visitors, we took a drive up through the N. Yorkshire Moors and to the seaside nearby. I wanted to work on my birds in flight shots on the seagulls and also maybe get a picture or two of some grouse and/or black pheasants. There is one area we drive through that we see grouse about 50% of the time. Some of them are really dark, almost black, some are red. There is another area where we see black pheasants, often quite a few. Without further delay, a few shots. Comments and critique always welcome.

Sorry, not Erie area. It is the north yorkshire moors in England. If you (or anyone reading this) decide to have a vacation in this area, let me know and I'll give you all sorts of info on the area.

Well i guess i was a little off.The moors, makes sense,My father was from England.Will have to save some more.Beautiful pictures.Ray

she wasn't there, nor was Ruby.  This was a people trip.  This spring/summer I'll get the dogs up there for some exercise.

Hey buddy,

A few here and there.  When rachel was in London we'd fish the Test for grayling a couple times a year.  That would always be a good day out.  Up this way I have 2 places for trout nearby, one stream and one lake/pond.  Both fish pretty well.  The stream has greyling and pike in it.  The pond has a continuous flow from the stream (at a fairly good clip) so it fishes more like a stream in the top and bottom 25%.  I've not caught any of the big fish, but I've seen a few that will push 15 lb.  My bigger ones go about 2' and 4-5 lb.  There is also an annual sea fishing trip where we bounce through the wrecks catching cod (to about 5#) and ling (up to 15#).  Ling are big, heavy, and fight hard coming up from 180' even on 30-50lb tackle.  They are pretty tasty too.

I've got a new patch of water to check out on the upper end of a tidal river.  I drive across the river twice daily and it looks like crap in the lower reaches.  However, the fish run it and it holds seatrout, flounder, trout, and other fish in the middle reaches which are a short drive for me.

There is also some carp in the summer at the local lake.  Not fancy fishing, but 3-4 hours of steady fish on bread on the surface is fun.
