Caught about 20 trout on Thursday...older guy next to me caught the same. We released all but a few that bled out.

I am curious to know what you guys were fishing?  I have only fly fished for trout in streams, so I am unsure of what they will go for in a lake.  Were you fishing from a boat?  Are they found in deeper water, or do they come into the shallows when its sunny out?  Thanks, I am home for spring break(ive been spoiled fishing spring creek and penns creek 2-3 times a week) and I am going through trout withdrawal.

Go buy yourself some maggots, wax (or butter if you can find them)worms, and minnows...set a heavy wooden bobber with a 4 foot lead and cast out as far as you can. Reel in a few feet every few minutes until you find where they are. Thursday they were VERY shallow but most times I get lots of action out in deep water by the spillway. Set one pole w/wax/mag combo and the other with a minnow until you find what they prefer. I was casting the mag/wax combo and if they wouldn't take, I would toss the minnow in the same spot and down it went...sometimes it was the opposite and they would take the other bait. That's what I do when fishing from shore.
From a boat, just buy a bunch of "Joe's flys" and troll the lake with them. You can also anchor out by the spillway and cast minnows/mags toward the wood piles on top og the spillway...caught a 36" Channel Cat doing that with maggots a few years ago.

I've been trout fishing Canonsburg for 30 years now and although some swear by fishing of the bottom, I prefer top...If you are going to fish bottom, use powerbait to float your bait a foot or two off bottom (put a split shot or 2 a few feet from your hook...just enough to get your bait to sink). You can also thread a marshmallow on your hook and tip with mag/wax/mealworms and the mallow will float your bait. Sometimes they are not hitting on top and this will be the way to go.

    Hope that helps.
