Thats it I,m going to the south pier saturday try for a burbot caught them as late as april over the years. I will try to scoop out some ice for ya.

I think you are catching bowfin, but think they are burbot...

the burbot were spotburned into extinction a couple years ago, the only remaining
DNA for erie burbots is frozen in a west virginia freezer...

Which way did the tail curl....

yeah I've seen a few guys catch bowfin and argue these are burbot I just laugh and fish. Although I wish I could be there when they eat them and realize it after pulling out a few hundred bones. Bowfin are one of my favorite fish to catch without a doubt, but not table fare. I never use cut bait like some of these guys for burbot because you end up getting bowfin which do look similar. Just a few minnows on a hook and a big weight

If we see alot of fish belly up. will know who did it. lol

hey slick seeing that your all gun ho for this. Maybe you should be the 1 doing the research. But seeing you dont care I did some for the board members who thought this was a great idea.

Most fish that can only tolerate narrow ranges of salinity and are highly sensitive to any changes in the levels of salt to the water in which they dwell. These fish are known as stenohaline species and include goldfish, which can live only in a freshwater environment. Reversely, tuna can exist exclusively in saltwater, according to the NMFS.

In fact, freshwater fish will often be unable to survive if the salinity levels of their surrounding water reaches more than .05 percent, according to the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII). They will die.

All living organisms have to maintain a certain level of a substance in order to survive. This is called homeostasis. Salt water fish need salt water to live because their cells have adapted to high concentration of salts being around them. Becasue they are in a high conc... of salt their cells inside do not need as much water. The opposite is true for fresh water fish. If you put a salt water fish into fresh water, the fishs cells would take in too much water and eventually burst. If you put a fresh water fish in salt water it would become dehydrated.
