Alumacraft 175 Navigator Sport.

Will this boat perform well for the occasional trip on lake erie? Anyone have experience with this boat? Just put money down to have it ordered with 115 Yamaha. I have heard good things about it.

Looks like it should do OK on better weather days. But any smaller boats need to use extreme caution and watch the weather for wind/wave issues. Actually, even bigger boats have to watch the weather.
Keep your load balanced and don't push your safety zone for getting back in. Could be a very rough trip in if caught unawares.
Invest in a decent radio and keep it on... and have fun!

There are days when you could fish the lake in a 12' with a 9.9, just not many. Hang around the lake long enough and you'll see some crazy people.

With the 115 you should be able to get off the lake in a hurry if you need to. Just remember that average days are 3 footers and they won't be real comfortable in a 17' boat. The boat should be capable of 3 footers though. If you're planning on fishing Erie alot, get a bigger boat.
