imo, i have to agree with psu. nothing fights like a 4-5 pound smallie on light tackle.

hey, I agree with the stocked trout notion, however, I find them a little more difficult to target, at times, then smallmouth... especially if you are fishing dries.

rap,

custom 2 wt. and that thrill of fighting trout will come about once again.

waist deep in water, a bronzeback jumping so close and so high that you have to look up to see her and thus, get showered, all on light line and med. light rods.........this gets this heart thumpin. from the little stream trout fishing that i have done, and because of kjh's and bings photography, i have to admit the fly guy's scenery is much more beautiful.

absolutely so... the middle stretches of Meadow Run, all the limestoners, and a vast majority of the freestone streams in the mountains accompanied with 2 wt. line and a 6' 6'' rod, by your lonesome, covered by canopy, seeing nature at it's finest: nothing compares, not even an 8 lb. smallmouth casting from shore or your buddies boat.  It's all about the adventure for me.  Preparing my hiking gear, the hike in, filling your water bottle as you eat lunch from a fresh spring that permeates the ground, not a pipe.  Priceless my friend.

If you are lake fishing, it's hard to beat Power Bait or other paste baits like that. If the lake is not too deep under 20', I also like to use minnows or grubs on a jig with a slip float.
Stream fishing, my go bait is live minnows, I also use wax worms, maggots, meal worms, butter worms & red worms early in the season. Once the H2O warms up the chubs become more active and will hit the grubs alot.
You can throw spinners, any kind will work. But the Rooster tails, Panther Martins, small Mepps &lue Foxes work well I also like to use small spoons..

The truth is, if you're fishing for stocked trout -- especially if they're freshly stocked -- and your main objective is to catch as many as possible, there are few baits that will outfish a ball of powerbait on a small hook above a sliding weight of the appropriate size. Close runners up are power worms, red worms, and hardware like Little Cleos. The situation dictates, but this is largely the case on both still and moving waters.

powerworms>powerbait... trust me dude.

Centre-Pin, 9 ft. soft action rod, 3g sheffield float. tapered shot from b to micro... powerworm (natural or pink), or a minnow through the tail. Deadliest rig out there.

Crawlers, PowerBait Trout Worms in natural or red, Panther Martin gold blade/black body w/yellow dots, Thomas Little Tiger Spoons in the gold and silver color, CP Swing spinners, Yo-Zuri Aile Goby or Pin's Minnow. I usually carry a small float and a few drys and buggers with me just incase I'm spinning and there is some good hatches going down.
