BWO sparkle dun
this is suppose to be a hot fly on the big horn. it looked easy to tie and i thought i'd share.
deer hair wing patterns are normaly used for rough water because they give a good silhouette, ride high and float well while easier to see in riffling water.
hook: #18 mustad 94842 up eye
thread: BWO #6 (i use heavier thread when tying deer hair)
shuck: olive z-lon (z-lon isn't cheap so i buy a light color and shade it with a marker)
wing: fine grayish deer hair
body: BWO super fine dubbing
1. base thread hook
2. tie in shuck
3a. cut off a small clump of grayish deer hair
3b. put clump of hair in hair stacker tips down
4. tap stacker on bottom and pull out inner cylinder on its side.
the tips should be neatly even.
5.tie in hair with tips over eye
6. trim butts at an angle. stand up wing and wind a few wraps on each side of wing than neatly wind thread to back of shank
7. dub body with olive dubbing
8. thread a head and whip finish.
(notice a few dubbed wraps in front of wing)
trim the tailing shuck so it looks a little messy and strung out.
9. this is where i color the shuck with the olive prisma marker and whala!
