OK  I know I will **** everyone off here but what are you showing there??? I see the farm run off.  I do not see any sediment ponds that all construction is to build, or any construction.  I was doing a shoot at McConnells Mills today and the water was pure brown.  I think we should stop all farming because that is the biggest cause of that.

I am a very pro environment person but please show what is happening not what is there before it happens.

And yes I think we need stronger controls on the drilling companies and the main company working is Haliburtin  ( Please pardon the spelling ). They have no controls.  But this is somthing we need expecialy with what is going on in the Mid East.

We need the revenue from this so maybe we can buy a Superbowl winning team like they did in Texas in the 70s

I can not remember who showed the picture of Kinzue with the mud showing but more control is needed for these drillers.

Jim, I don't know the area in question very well, but it sure appears to be that the sediment laden water running down the hill you see is a result of faulty E&S controls in place from the well pad area.  The drilling companies are required to construct and operate effective E&S controls for any earth disturbing activities (greater than 5 acres I think?).  They need to have silt fences up at a minimum and possibly a sed basin as well.  This is a very common infraction committed by the drilling companies.

You are right that this picture is anything but rare.  If anything, farm run-off is far worse for the streams than untreated storm water runoff because of the high nutrient levels it contains.  Take a look at the issues the Chesapeak Bay is experiencing.

At any rate, all untreated runoff can cause streams to fill and experience high unnatural runoff rates, both of which will lead to the stream erosion and widening.   It also can choke out aquatic life in streams.

What you are looking at in the video was indeed spring run off . What did not show in the video is that just 50 yards west of that runoff pipe was another pipe that was running crystal clear out of the same vineyard as it does every year during the spring melt. The drilling company has broken the tiles at the sight pad and proved that thay can not contain any liqids at that sight .If there was a spill of fracking fulids or salt brine at the so called "contained " site it would be in 20 mile creek within minutes, if that should occur during a steelhead run or when there are steelhead smolts stocked into the creek there would be thousands of dead fish . With that said I must say that I am not opposed to gas drilling . I am against gas drilling companies that cut corners and don't have respect for the land they are drilling into or the water and homes around it ! If you can't do the job right and make sure it is safe for the comunity don't do it at all .

As to what THE FERD said I can not agree more     The problem is the companies that cause the problems just keep going and going.  I have an article on my fridge about all the lawsuits over the gulf spill and the only company not sued over this is Halliburton. My question is do you think they have any political pull????

I am sure Donny Beaver will take care of this. Remember they are preserving resources through their lease aquisitions.

DB doesn't care.  Its not his stream.  He will just move over and grab up prime chunk of Elk.
