Reusing a steering console - different manufacturer?

Anyone know if I can salvage my Yamaha steering cables from a 50hp outboard to run a 9.9 Evinrude? Would I need to stay in the same family of motors, or do the size of the motors make a big deal?

Cool. I currently have both mounted, using one of those kicker bars to steer the smaller one. I have a seperate throttle control for the smaller one already mounted. I'd like to get the extra weight off of the back. Maybe sell the 50, since it never gets any use.
