we only made it out a few hours sunday morning and all we managed was a sucker and something that threw the hook before we had a chance to see what it was. going out again this weekend to give it another go

i caught a bout 16" walleye on my fly rod below the dam on saturday. there are a bunch of dead shad? floating and on the bottom, therefore there is a lot to eat if they want fish.
a couple of guys were fishing with spinning rods but didn't see them catch anything.
water temp was near 32 degrees and they had 4 gates open

Outa- if you guys go up this coming weekend let me know if you do any good or not because i am throwing around either there or maybe erie on Monday. Erie may be decent to fish by then so we'll see i guess.  Double-is that issue with the shad die off common for this time of year or is that unusual? Just askin. Thanks.

Shad Kills happen in alot of reservoirs when the lake water hits a certain low temperature. The shad become lethargic or even die, then they are flushed out the dam and the river fish can sometimes gorge on them.

I see it every year. Sometimes while ice fishing you,ll see them swirling in circles under the ice.
As D-nymph stated , its when the temps get below 33 you see this.
