shoot-thru hull vs thru hull transducer

Looking to replace transom mount transducer with either a shoot thru or a hull thru transducer for high speed operation. Does anyone use these and how do they work for high speed readings.
Also best place to mount. My boat is a Trophy wa. Any info would be appreciated

Thanks

Can't help ya on the how to's and why's, but I know that some are epoxied to the inside of the hull and some you have to drill through and epoxy in. I'm not a big fan of drilling holes in the bottom of my boat.

I will say that I get good readings on my transom mount up to about 20 mph, it will read depth accurately above that but won't pick up much else. Just be sure to properly locate it and you shouldn't have any issues.

The 2 links above will give you an idea about what is involved with shoot through hull mounting and the types of transducer that you want.
The Lowrance shoot through hull transducer (the round one) is pretty good. You will do well if you get their fishfinder and GPS unit together with the transducer and you will stay within your budget. But don't take this as gospel. There are other good units out there with the same price range.

If you decide to go with a "through-hull", look at "Airmar" transducers.
Sort of pricey, but a very, very good device.
    Good tech support also.

Stay away from the Lowrance thru hull transducers. I had nothing but problems with them and the Lowrance customer service stinks. I was on hold forever with them!
