Add an elbow or T and tube at one or both of the ends to keep the downward tube vertical-current will push it

Move the fishfinder a few feet back so that you do not kick it into the hole.

Here's my set-up.  Sorry no pics.

Cheapest single tray tackle box from Kmart you can find.  Yank out the tray.  Drill one hole in the back for the power cord.  Cut a vertical groove down one side of the bottom half for the transducer cord.  A dremel works great for that.  I used the same console bracket and hardware as on my boat to bolt the bracket to the top of the tool box.  I also used a skimmer style transducer that oriented about perfect just hanging from the cord.  The 12V rechargeable battery fits neatly inside.  For transporting it takes some squeezing but I can get the sonar, cord, battery, and transducer all neatly in the box.  It literally cost $10 for me b/c I already had the battery and I just swapped the bracket and transducer back and forth from the boat.  The only problem is that it's not happy much below 20 F.  The display gets very dim so I usually shut it down if it's too cold.

One more Question. My lowrance mark 5x pro has a flasher. I was watching a video about a vexlar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xW4fo9ilm40. Can my lowrance do this?

    Split Flasher
    Displays a sonar flasher in
the left panel with the sonar
    view in the right panel.

Look at page 14 and 15

I read that but it never explanes what the flasher is for. The video shows a guy locating fish with the vexlar flasher and i wanted to know if my flasher can do the same thing. Please bear with me i'm pretty new.

    I use a 10" circle of plexiglass.
Cut a slit to the middle and then cut about a 2 inch hole dead center.
I then have a piece of closed cell foam with a slit to the middle that fits in the hole tightly. Run the transducer cable through the foam and plexiglass and just set the plexi over your hole. I use it for my Aqua view also..

I really wouldnt worry about running it in flasher mode. I have the lowrance x67c and I run mine in split zoom. One side I have the whole water column and the other side I zoom to where I'm fishing. To me the flasher mode on my finder is a waste of time, you'll find fish just as easy in the sonar mode. Just make sure your fish id is off and dont expect hooks on the screen. The fish will show up as a lines depending on your color line I know mine when fish is just outside of the bait its black then blue then green then orange then red when its directly under the cone. If you need some help pm me I'll do my best to get you set up for ice.

Just have one question, my units both say not to leave them in freezing conditions as it may adversly effect the LCD screens, have you guys had any issues? I remove them from the boat every year and keep them in the house.

Never had an issue with my lowrance. I was out last weekend and it was 8 degrees. I've had this for two years now and havent had a single issue with it.
