ORIGINAL: chrishinesg can anyone tell me if they make braided line in 2,4,6lb...or suggest a mono with low stretch...i fish for perch in 50-60fow and the strectch in my line is way too much Most 10 lb. braids are 2 to 4lb. mono dia. equivlant. No need for anything less than 10lb. braid even for perch IMO.

I use 6 and 10 pound fireline, just warning you make sure your rod has smooth guides otherwise it will fray easier than normal

PowerPro Knots Tips When tying PowerPro: • Pass your line through the eye of your tackle twice, if possible. • Double your line before tying, if your tackle allows, to create a large knot. • Use a gloved hand, dowel, or soft-jawed pliers to avoid injury when tightening knots. • Moisten your knot before tightening. If your rod has ceramic guides you run the risk of ruining them with braid (if you catch big fish, snag up, etc.) as it can cut into them. It can also damage reels that aren't fit for it in some cases. I only use braid when it's necessary or fitting, which isn't often. I typically run braid if I'm fishing for big pike in the Midwest or catfish in the Ohio/Mississippi/Green in the south, but don't usually need it in Pennsylvania.

I have a wide variety of fishing rods new and old ceramic, steel, fuji eyes run braid on all of them some for many years. Never had the braid cut into ANY of the eyes!!! As a matter of fact I never recall seeing anybody I fish with have the line cut into the eyes. Although have heard people say that they have had in happen. Dave

Yea, it really depends. If you get hung up on a snag and pull, or get into a large fish that strips line quickly while you have the pole up, the pressure can cause the braid to act like a sort of rope saw and cut into your guides. It can be noticeable or leave tiny nicks (which can lead to damaged line, possibly without you even knowing it). My main point is that it's a possibility.

Yeah ya know I have had all kinds of snag, big to gigantic fish, heck once in Canada I pulled a 16ft deep V all over the lake that had no trolling motor and yet It never had a eye get grooves-cuts. Does anybody on this site have a pic of a rod with grooves-cuts on the eyes from braided line???? just would like to see one!!! Dave

I had read the new Suffix 832 braid doesn't make the "noise" associated with other braids. Haven't tried it myself yet though. Worth a look anyway.

Newer ceramic guides, esp. SiC guides, won't get damaged from Spectra fiber lines. All metal guides can get damaged over time.
