Rabbit vs. Squirrel

Hello Everyone

I've only been tying for a few years now. And for some reason i never heard of squirrel zonkers! I've used rabbit strips with a good bit of success. I saw a streamer recipe (leech pattern in Fly Tyer, winter 2010) that called for squirrel. I checked around on the net and squirrel seems a bit expensive. All i could find were whole hides. My question is: Are squirrel and rabbit interchangable or are the hairs in squirrel strips too stiff? Also where can a guy get some without buying a whole hide?
Thanks
Happy Holidays

I tie up a bunch of Pine Squirrel zonkers.
The hide on them is smaller and the hairs are a little shorter.
But they tie up just the same...
Poor Richards is where i get my Pine Squirrel zonkers from...
