nice job on this realistic. really like the legs, super realistic and proportions look right on. Its obvious you have put some time into this pattern and it has paid off.

I'd love to do one .......... but I'm embarassed to say how long it took me to do this and the tute would most likely take alot longer.  Call me obsessed I guess.

    Longhorn Beetle.

You say ugly... Looks awful pretty to me. Eye of the beholder I guess.

What did you use for the legs? Almost looks like feather shafts.

DB - The legs are two seperate pieces of porcupine quill with a material called Japanese nymph legs (basically it's the same as a single bristle from a paint brush - but they're stiffer) inserted through the quill. Bent to the angle wanted.... painted with black prismacolor pen and rolled between the fingers to give a mottled look. They are then all lightly coated with clear cure goo (epoxy).

    Very nice.

I just started tying this year, but I have an extensive art background so I'm catching on. I've been making those Hise wax worms and have been using single scrub brush bristles in place of nymph leg. They are nice because they are already bent into a u shape. If you ever need a substitute for the nymph skin, latex glove or strips of those long skinny balloons work well depending on thickness required.

F.Y.I. I had to learn to tie with the money in my change jar as a budget. I love the dollar store.

Outstanding. I'd try to kill it if I saw it on my desk.

Very nice! If you want it tried out I'll give it a go when i get back on my foot. I bet that thing bounced just off the bottom would be killer. Or don't you fish them?

    Agreed!

Geez, Steely. You're messing up the bell curve for us newbies!

I'd be afraid to fish it because I'd probably go postal when I lost it!

i wouldn't let this one set out of the water too long. a bird might just scoop it up!!

i'd use it as a hat pin. wouldn't risk losing it.
    great tie.
