searching for stronger tippet

I've been having a lot more brakeoffs this year than ever before. Scientific and Seaguar being the culprits. Anyone know the best tippet for strength without much visability?

Trust me, from now until they freeze, straight 4# maxima. IMHO. all flouro sux and breaks when it gets cold, just a matter of when and where.

I've noticed that too. But I still believe Flouro. makes a difference underneath.

3X is as low as I go in winter. Just got to keep working on the presentaion when the water gets skinny.

Forget tippett! ! ! Let me repeat myself Forget Tippett! When fishing for steelies just use a 2-3 foot chunk of 6# mono on your leader. OR, just forget about the leader and just knot on 8 -10 feet of 6# mono on your fly line. Unless you're fishing for steelhead with a dry fly there is verry little need for tippett. Save a few bucks.

agree almost completely...a short piece of 20 and then a short piece of 12 after the fly line seems to roll out a little better than just straight six... went down to 4 last winter for the first time in a while on the fly... little did i find, it worked... amyebe a coincidence maybe not. it was maxima chameleon by the way

thanks for the tips guys, I landed a nice 14 pounder today on fluro but it took me forever to land. Picked up some Maxima ultragreen today going to give it a shot. Fishing was hot today, caught around 20 for the whole day. Homemade peach-pearl jigs was the bait of choice

Seagar for me if I am using tipppet material.  I did experiment with McCoy this year and it worked great.  Fished the stuff the forst time this year on the Susky for smallmouth and that stuff casts great and is very abrasion resistent.

McCoy Mean Green.   Strong, tough and has good knot strength.  Get a small spool  and it will last you more than a season.  I have tried just about all of the rest of the tippet material out there, and found the Mean Green works the best for me.  McCoy also makes a clear fluorocarbon.  Only used that a few times, but it seemed to be OK.

I have used the 4, 6 and 8 lb test.

maxima!!!  Tried and True!  I believe its a little heavier than most.  For instance... 5x maxima is like 3x Rio.

Most major tippet/leader companies make a good product. I'll refrain from naming names, since I work for one of them.

The best advice I can give is to pay as much attention to knot strenth as you do pound test numbers. Lots of guys look at the pounds and don't consider whether or not the material ties a good knot. If the knot breaks easily, the pound test number doesn't matter a bit.

Oh come on.  How are we supposed to know the CLIMAX (hint, hint) of the story if yu don't name names?

Another one that I have been really happy with has been Froghair Flouro. It is really supple and is really good pound/diameter ratio. I buy it in the guide spools to save money.
