Predator hunters

The bobcat thread inspired this.  Anyone here hunt predators?  I hunt them here in the SW, sometimes with "Benthook" from this site.  I target mainly coyotes after deer season.  Went to AZ twice to hunt them in '08 & '09.  Any other coyote hunters?

How many Pa. yotes do you average a year, only ones I got or my son got where hunting something else. We got them on cam's and know where they live, but never called one in,did have them bark back.Last year I hunted the entire muzzle loader season with a (222 cal) and never saw or heard one, plenty of tracks just no yotes. To me thats Pa. hardest animal to hunt and kill.Good luck,I know I need it when it comes to yotes. Any tips that I don't know would help? Did you every hunt over bait, like deer carcass?

I have taken yotes on purpose as well as accidentally. I hunt them, I use electronic and mouth calls. Some years i get out much more than others though. Not much this season for various reasons. Will probably be getting out at least a few times over the winter here.

I agree bigtuna. Hardest animal in Pa to take, on purpose anyway. Even harder to do it with any kind of consistency at all.

Believe me, I don't endanger the populations.  I started hunting them about 10 or so years ago as an excuse to go to camp in the winter.  It became addictive.

I never hunted over bait.  Personally, I'd rather watch TV.  I have always called.

I spent my first day in the woods of Pa.gun season.Messed up on a yote, never stopped to give me a shot,a real dark one.I had my little 7-30 waters single shot TC 16 1/4 Barrel.I tried to stop him but he just ran faster till he was gone.Did harvest an adult swamp donkey at 10:00,I would rather had the yote than the doe.

ok tuna, perhaps a type of a call what kind of areas strip mines clear cuts ive only seen 2 in my 9 years of hunting, reason i ask is for every coyote its a deer i can talk off an old farmers property, loves the deer hates the coyotes eatin his chicken and ive seen pretty big buck on his property, sure would like to put the hammer down on a few wild dogs

if they are getten his chickens, chicken in distress should work best. the most important thing is the wind. they will come down wind every time. i mean every time. go with at least 2 people check the wind and have a person 60 yds or more down wind. go at nite and just listen or get them to howl to try to see where they are hanging out.

I disagree.  They don't always circle down wind, especially if using coyote sounds.  I also disagree with 3 people, the fewer the better.

I'd get a electronic caller. I have a Johnny Stewart Preymaster or you can drop some serious coin for a Fox pro

i have set up several times and had them howling back then silence, not see nothen or hear nothing only to have coyote tracks cross my path 80 yds down wind. if there wasnt snow on the ground i wouldnt of known he had done this. they mite note do this every time but if you play the wind you will see more coyotes.

I agree you have to know what the wind is doing, and most of the time they circle. That's where the advantage of a remote controlled caller comes in.

come jan. and feb. switch up with some hows. the males are looking to breed, like a buck in rut. they are not so much into looking for food. also there are alot of dead deer in the woods and they have been eating a ton of gut piles. learn some of the different hows. here is a good site. punch up (varmint als hunting) in yahoo. site has a lot of different sounds and hows you can down load and try to immatate or download to a card or your caller.
