2010 Fruit Basket Program
ALL the Fruit Basket Program is drawing near. We ask all steelhead fisherman to donate to this great end of the year program. In a nut shell the program allows us, the fisherman, To thank landowners along our favorite steelhead tributaries. This program is in it's 4th year now and in the past few years the program went from giving just 6 fruit baskets to nearly 120+. We all know it has been a rough year. Few fish, Lots of fisherman and tough economic times. I will say this the property owners look forward to receiving a basket and realize the importance of the steelhead program to the Erie area. Some do have complaints but most are easily remedied. Without the fruit basket of good will, I feel we would have lost some access over the past year.Please donate what you can. Guys, this is really important, we have lost some really good fishing spots on elk recently, the holes past the pavilion up past the legion hole are now all exclusive to a private fishing club, not the spring borrow one or w/e its called but a different one, got asked to leave the area the other day, didnt know it was all posted up there which is a shame. And who knows what spots could be next...
So lets make sure this doesn't happen to any other spots!
Hopefully we can get some of these spots back, there are some really awesome spots on elk that you just can't get too. Everyone says there haven't been very good runs... well there have been plenty of fish they are just getting up past I-90 area before we can fish for them, My buddy's friends with a landowner near beckman road, so I've followed the fish and have seen large numbers of them, you just cant fish for them because all the spots or either member exclusive or posted and once they get past folleys they seem to spread out a lot more.
So please guys lets give back to the amazing people who share their property with us!!

The Baskets cost us $27 each. That is a pretty cheap price for them letting us use their property to fish. We also give them a card with names and phone numbers so as they can contact someone if they have a problem. We will be delivering them the week before Christmas.

You can make checks to Pennsylvaina Steelhead**** or to Sabols Fruit Farm where we get the baskets.

Thanks Jim for posting the info on the baskets. I would like to add these baskets are given out in areas where access is good but the pressure heavy. Often times we are the only fishermen thanking these individuals. Often the words from those delivering have made a significant impact on our fishery in Erie county.
Thank you to all who have given to this program this and in prior years.

Was at the Pa Steelhead meeting last evening and looks like we will be able to meet last years quote on baskets and may even be albe to up it. One fisherman from VA sent us a check for $1500.00 toward the baskets. He gets up here maybe twice a year. Want to thank all the organization and donation from you fisherman for keeping this alive again this year. As far as the business that make money from the fish all no shows.

Hello, just wanted to post a comment and say that what the association is doing with the fruit basket program is just awesome and I have made a point to donate every year what I can to the cause....my check is in the mail, hope I'm not to late and thank you for what your doing.
