WOW!! 43 pt

http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/25954562/detail.html

UPPER BURRELL, Pa. -- A local man told Channel 4 Action News about the 43-point buck he bagged on the first day of rifle season.
Steve McCartney has been hunting since he was 12 years old and said he has never even seen a buck like this, let alone bagged one.
McCartney had already been hunting for five hours when he spotted the deer at about noon on Monday in Upper Burrell, Westmoreland County.
“At first, I was watching an 8-point kind of mess around my stand and I never had a really good shot on him and he kind of got spooked away,” McCartney told Channel 4 Action News’ Ari Hait. “Then he came stumbling out behind him. Thank God I didn’t take the first shot because I would’ve regretted it.”
McCartney knew he was looking at something special, something he had to have.
“I actually hit him in the belly with the first shot and then he kind of stumbled a little bit. And the second shot, I hit him in the upper shoulder and took him down,” said McCartney.
McCartney took the big buck to Karas Packing in Slickville, and workers couldn’t believe what they had seen.
“Biggest one I’ve done in 32 years out here and I’ve been around the deer business for 43,” said Gary Karas.

Great deer, no way do i mean to put it down. But i had a picture in my mind of the main frame of the rack to be larger. But it has sure has alot of stickers everywhere.

I would be interested in knowing the age of the deer

Cool buck, but nowhere near what I had envisioned when I first heard about it. Again, no discredit meant, but I would venture a guess to say less than half of those "points" are scorable. The media did do a great job of blowing it way out of proportion and claiming it was a record.

At any rate it is still a great buck and I must say congrats to the hunter.

Very Interesting indeed ! Congrats to the Hunter who harvested that unique trophy ! A 43 point ??? I am curious if all those stickers, by "Game Commision" standards would actually be counted as legal points? What is the true definition of a point anyway?

I always counted it if it was an inch. I would say 20 or more of those points probably would not make a inch. Congrats to the hunter though, very nice buck.

That is the nastiest, gnarliest, ugliest deer I have ever seen. I sure wish I could see one like that, what a stud. The mass is phenomenal and his character is second to none. What a great buck, no matter what the point count or BC score. Congrats to the hunter, he now has his trophy of a lifetime from PA.

old-school points were if you could hang your wedding ring on it.  certainly not today's standard, but I say let the man enjoy his really neat 43 point buck.  he might have grounds for divorce if she won't let him hang it SOMEWHERE in the house.

I agree that when hearing "43 point buck" weall  envisioned something much different but to be the one who put this thing down would be incredible.  Wonder what he was feeling like right before the shoot.   Hunting all those years and the rush must have been like his first one.

    same here...

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

I only saw 42.  I figured someone was exagerating.
Neat buck for sure, but I sure wouldn't be on camera calling it a 43 point, maybe the internet though!

Very nice buck-congrats-wouldnt pass it up-real unique-looks like a bout a 3 1/2 year old with a gnarly 8 or 10 point frame ( photo angle may change that a bit) Dont know about counting each and every little gnarl on it but have hunted with guys who do that - used to hear that wedding ring thing, in some places it was the rule everyone went by. In other places they frowned on it.
Not so different than the Western count compared to the Eastern way of counting a rack. We call it an 8 and they call it a 4.

    Nah-
That would have been a 600 pounder sitting in a tree with two or three quivers full of arrows in it(see the big bear controversy).
It is, despite how we may count the points, a very nice buck.
Saw a deer someone was running around calling a 10 point one time that looked just like a gnarly fork horn to the rest of us.
