First Fly Combo Advice

Im looking to get into fly fishing  and would like to get a combo for Xmas but have no clue what to look for in a fly outfit. I looked at gander mountain and saw 2 combos i was interested in a reddington 5wt combo and a st. criox combo. My question is what is a good all around wt and length for fishing for trout and smallmouth on small and medium creeks. Im looking to spend around 100 to 200 for a decent combo to get into fly fishing. Thanks

Plus used judiciously a 6wt can be used for steelhead too. A good all around rod. Fish USA has some deals on Ugly Sticks too. You can buy a cheap rod and invest in a moderate reel and be very happy. Don't forget the bonus that most combos come with line and backing too.

don't really know of the combo packages they have now, but my 9' 5 weight cortland combo did me fine 22 years ago. i'm sure cortland still has combos if you looked. actually landed kings and steel with it for a few years there. indisguiz had a great point with the 6 weight. better for large mouths, can handle steel just fine, and can punch a line a little harder when needed in those crucial times when you see a subtle sip 50 ft. across from you... good luck with your choice and venture in to fly fishing.
