15 ft up, no bow and lots of bucks(pics)

With the beautiful weather and the rut heating up, I couldn't help myself and decided to hit one of my stands after work just take it all in.  No bow and only my camera because my tags are filled that I could use in 2B.

Snuck in and was settled by 4:30 and the action was immediate.  I could see deer up above me milling around.  Soon therafter this 4 point comes on by.

It wasn't 5 minutes later than this 5 point came nosing around my stand. Both this guy and the four point chewed some acorns and headed back towards where I saw the movement earlier.

I again could see deer up above me, hear them crashing around and caught sight of some bigger antlers.  I hit the grunt call and here comes a deer headed right towards me. As he gets closer, it becomes obvious that this guy is a nice one.  I kind of began to wish that he did not come within range of me but within moments he was milling around underneath me at a mere 5 yards.  Big 8 point with a 18 inch spread.  Probably would have been my biggest buck if I had a tag.  No regrets though as the buck I shot last Saturday was special as well.

About twenty minutes later a group of does fed past without a buck in tow.

The evening finished up with this 6 point coming past me at 10 yards grunting louder than I ever heard a buck grunt before.

What an awesome evening in the stand even without my bow.  Watching what would have been my biggest archery buck at 5 yards from 15 feet up and him not knowing I was there was just way cool. The does did not seem to appreciate the bucks company as of yet.  Now is the time guys and girls.  Unfortunately, the weather looks iffy for the next few days.

Good luck and go get em.  :music:

That never fails, if you want to see a big buck, go sit in your stand after you filled your tag, and you will.

Nice d.   Fun time of year to be in the woods for sure.  I've been filming a buddy and got a yearling doe doing circles around us and 3 bear (one at about 6 yards) run under us.  Two cubs about 30-35 pounds and mother about 150.   I'll post some videos next week, hopefully get some more and get him shooting one.

It was a nice evening.  My buddy says he was taking a break today.   I don't think this is the time to take a break but its up to him.  On the way home from work I decided to take my hunting route, saw a 3 pt coming down a trail.  I stopped the truck on the road and the dumb thing came down the bank and walked around the bed of truck.  Didn't even look at me.   I had the camera with me but couldn't get set as me wife was beotchin' on the phone.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

Nice pics, same deal with me,I shoot a nice 8pt with a 18 1/4 inch spread and my son puts the cam over the scrape I shot my buck at and see's giant at least 20 inches,I also saw a 130 class 8pt running a doe Sunday at another spot I hunted in the past.I guess I did the right thing but it would be fun to get a chance a one of these giants,I'm going to start hunting Ohio in the next couple of days( bow),till there gun comes in or I kill a buck,by then I'll be pretty burnt out,I've got to drive over a hour each way ,so I will not be sleeping much. In a dream world,it would be great to hunt every day of the season and kill a monster on the last day of the season. But thats the dream world, you got to kill them, when you get your chance, because you might not get another.

    Very cool.

I turkey hunted in 2F this morning. Saw no bids but did see a really nice 8 that had about an 18 inch spread. Thing walked within 40 yds of me and onto the same path I was on, never did see or wind me. Also saw 2 scrub bucks and 4 doe, everything I saw could have been easily taken with a rifle.

Figures, I give up archery and all I see is deer, LOL.

What time of year was this? Here in 2F the leaves are 99% on the ground...you STILL have green leaves and lots from the pics????

Those were from last week.  Allegheny county.  Don't know what kind of bush it is but the leaves are still green as of today.  Lots of it around here.  Low growing thick bush of some sorts. My buddy calls it honeysuckle?  Funny thing is it is the first bush to green up in the spring too. The leaves on the trees are pretty much down.

Anyone know what species of bush Honeysuckle have hazy purple/black berries on them?  There are over a hundred varieties and I can't find a pic of this one.  Property I hunt is loaded with it in the creek bottom.

Check out this article on Honeysuckle, increased deer and tick populations...yikes.
