Yough Dam

Anyone ever fish the Yough Dam this time of year? It is way low but I thought about giving it a shot from shore or maybe from a float tube up by the bridge. I thought maybe the walleye or smallmouth would be bulking up for the winter. Is it worth it?

never fished it this time of year because of the draw down and hunting season. I imagine once they draw it down 20' it starts to limit where the fish can go a bit more. Still plenty of water in there at that point, but it is going to concentrate them on deeper water structures and not the shallower coves like the spring time.

    Thanks

i too never fished at this time of year but own a house there...the bridge would be my target spot with the submerged one there for cover and it in shallower water...let us know how you do!

    Bill,
That is exactly what I intended to do. I figure that the submerged bridge is one piece of cover that I can easily locate. I may fish the rt 40 bridge supports as well. Hopefully the walleye or smallies will have their feed on. I will post a report tomorrow as long as the weather holds out. I'm not sure I will go out if I have to fish in the rain all day.

    Bill,
Was up at the Yough a little today. Made a few casts but didn't bother putting the tube in the water. It was cold and raining and I just wasn't into it. It was even tough to fish from shore because the sandy bottom was so soft that I just kept sinking in. I think I will just wait until next year to head back up to fish. But I would be up for hooking up sometime to do some fishing there. My inlaws have a cabin up there and I typicall fish off the dock. Sometimes I do ok and sometimes well...not so much.

    nightwolf,

The yough is tough to fish from shore. The banks are almost always steep, an where they're not steep they are mud from a stream coming in. There are a few places, but even getting around the lake isn't easy from spot to spot because the roads aren't 'direct'.

    Thanks

The shoreline is slightly more accessible this time of year, but still tough. The shorelines are still pretty steep with the water level down.

Dont forget about the previous remains of the route 40 bridge on the south side of route 40. They removed the deck and the outtermost pilars, but the centers were blown up and lay on the bottom
