Cotter Pins and bunny flies

Well, I finally got around to doing a little cotter pin example. Here's a simple woolhead bunny fly.

And that's about it. Quick sinking, orange and olive, steelhead angering, sculpinish thingy.

sick fly, how long are the cotter pins and do they come in different sizes? One would think the split ring affects how it fishes?

Cotter pins can be had from as small as 1" with very small weight/diameter, all the way up to 3" heave gauge. Yep, the split ring actually gives it a little wobble, etc AND it still allows the bunny to do its thing. It's a pretty sweet, cheap alternative to the expensive waddington shanks, etc. THEY ARE CHEAP! Like $.89 for 6 of the smaller ones at Home Despot. Thanks! -Jamie

Looks good. I guess I'm going to have to run to the hardware store soon.

There's a place near my house that has jig/lure making supplies. I can get packs of 25 for around $.99. I think they're made by jigger or something like that.

Couple places to get small split rings on line: lure parts on line, Jann's netcraft, cabelas tackle craft, small rings, starting at about 15 lb test, suitable for ringing cotter pin flies.

What size are those split rings because on a couple of those website they are rated by sizes and not lb rating.

They're tiny. Like 1/8". They hold true, though.

Sweet tie. I never thought of using cotter pins but they make sense. (More sense is less $cents$)
What are you using to attach the hooks? I started using braid last year on my intruder patterns and found it much better than mono. It seems to tuck the hook right into the side of their jaw when they shake their head. I found my older mono patterns don't get as many hook ups.

    Rickerd,
Same here and use spider wire. No stretch so the hook hits home.
Last week I lost a couple on old ties with maxima.
