Wilmore Dam

I see where the boat launch is closed at Wilmore until next Tuesday.   Any one know what is going on there?

The only thing better than 1 day of fishing is 2 days of fishing.

i did a search it is in cambria county, one mile north of wilmore ,pa.take 160 north to wilmore pa.turn right onto willow beach road.turn right off of willow beach road at mail box #556,travel this dirt road one mile to dam, electric motors only,2 miles of shoreline, and did not say what kind of fish is in there.did say through the week no one is there at all and it's like having your own private lake, sounds good to me.

I used to live close to it - check out the S. Central forum for lots of posts.  They opened it up for fishing several years ago.  Nice place, fished it a lot of times.

Thats about it. I live a few miles from it. Its a real nice dam. There is a trout stream that feeds it so there might be the occasional trout in there. The last trip there for me this year was about 3 weeks to a month ago, it was the lowest I ever seen it. The boat launch was even out of the water a couple of feet. I dont know why it is closed, they were working on the road last time I was there.

Yes the Crappie are a nice size there. Really nice bass fishery to. I love going up there and throwing some spinners and tubes and havin a good ole time! If you like catfish thats 1 place you should really look into. I like going up there for turtles in the summer as well. There are plenty of them up there, and they taste really good :) I onaly live about 5 or 10 mins from the dam and if i ever get a free moment on a saturday its nice to have a place so close to home to go to. Oh and just to give you guys a heads up, this dam allowes boats but electric motors only. The last time i was up there the water was really really low for some reason, not sure why but that my make putting you boat in a bit hard. But at normal pool it has a really nice boat launch and is easy to launch from. Hope i was some help :)

Ya I didnt even try to put the boat in last trip. I probably could have got it in but it wasnt worth it for a few hours of fishing. I just fished from shore.

Not only is electric motor only - you're not even allowed to have an outboard on the boat at all.  Correct?  That really bums me out, I'm not going through the bother of taking my motor off to deal with it.  Had the canoe out there a bunch of times though - good times.

Yep, you need to remove the gas motor and your portable fuel tanks if you want to fish Wilmore and not get pinched.  Small price to pay to have a nice lake opened up to fishing.

Thanks! Her name is Lil Betty, and she was around 6lb. Did not want to weigh here cause i just wanted to get her back into the water. I did put her on the ruler and she was 21" and a fatty lol. She and i have some history and i do go back and visit her once in a while. I knew where she was and i seen her almost everytime i went there (Beaver Run Dam). She would never bite for me though. She would follow may lure clear to the boat almost everytime i threw at her. This went on for about a year. Then the next spring i went back up there and did not see her and i figured someone caught her and took her home. so it was getting dark and i was about to pack it up and my dad said how about 15 more minutes. So im lik ok no problem. Well my next cast i felt a truck hit my line and i knew it was her! The water up there is crystle clear and you can see everything and i seen her huggin the botom and shoot under the boat. I knew that was a bad thing because this lake gets very windy and i had 2 anchors out and i did not want her to get tangled up. Well needless to say she got wraped up around the rear rope and i pulled her up as far as i could and lied down and grabed her by the lip. As soon as i did that the hooked poped out! I had a death grip on her and lifter her over the side of the boat and my dad almost craped his pants lol. So i snapped 2 pics and away she went, back into the water. I been back twice and i ive seen her the last time i was there, and she has gotten bigger! So maybe oneday when the time is right again she will suprise me again lol.

Beaver Run Dam is also close to me. Same distance as wilmore, its just in the other direction. It to is electric only and no u are not allowed to have a gas motor on your bot there either. The water is crystle clear there which can make it hard to fish, not to mention it is always windy as hell to lol. It sets right ontop of a mountain which is probly why it is so windy. The bad thing about it is it is not a fertile lake. They have been adding lime to the lake which is improving the contitions but they ran out of money so that is at a standstill at the moment. Anyway it still is a nice lake to fish, but you wont catch as much there as wilmore IMO. But the fish seem to be bigger at Beave run. So maybe give it a try sometime. If you catch Lil Betty please put her back so i can continue my visits with her
