the sage 99's throw nymphs with shot very well along with the wintson bIIIx 10' 4 weight also throws some nice line. Cast both of those and wouldn't have a problem picking up either one. Skip if you want to Euro Nymph I looked at the Echo and the Greys 10 footer, a lot of people recommend the Greys for the money.

What a depressing question. It's like asking what's your favorite thing to do to pass time while waiting in line at the DMV.

Very nice you have a Sage 99 and Winston 10 footer. How do those rods fish all around? I'm looking at the Winston myself but will probably go custom.

Don't own them, but have casted them both on grass and on the water.

    Rainshadow IF1005 RX-7 10' 5 wt.  If you can stand a 2 Piecer, its a great rod.

Other than that 10' 3 wt DC 4 pc is hype too.

Custom 10' 3/4 wt. No name blank from ebay, cost $19. VERY slow action. Reminiscent of the 10'6" 2-6 wild river noodle rod (which would make a pretty slick nymph rod too). Not a distance caster (though 50-60' is reasonable if you time it well), but it roll casts and lobs great. It is better for line control and fish control on 7X more than anything. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

The rainshadow RX7 9' 3 wt is another nice light nymphing trout blank. It fishes more like a 4 and takes a 4 wt line. if you like a short rod, it's another good one.

If you want a little bigger/heavier, the 9'9" St Croix SCIV 5 wt was a SWEET blank for the purpose. It fished better with a full 5 wt line, indicator, shot, and a pair of flies. I imagine the 10' replacement would be a nice one too.

    Thanks,
    Rick

An Orvis Limestone Special usually gets the nod on Kettle and 1st Fork and streams like them or sometimes an 8' 4 1/8 ounce Orvis Battenkill. Sometimes these streams will see the Heddon 8'6" 1 3/4 F.

Smaller streams like Young Womans either gets a Chuck Neuner 7'6" 4 weight or a 7' Orvis Deluxe.

Big streams, like lower Pine, see an Orvis 8'6" 5 ounce or a Montague 9' Redwing medium trout.

Fishing with bait is like swearing in church.

the old sage RPLX series rods are great for nymphing. fished them for years high sticking for steelies. a fast yet thin light weight rod. i actually still have around 20 blanks from 20 years ago to still be tied. just tied a 10" 7 weight; just need to coat it...

Do indie flyfishers have lots of tattoos, tight jeans, listen to crappy music, and constantly spew pretentious art snob bull****, or am I misunderstanding "indie" fishing?

well if they are indie rocker flyfisherman i would assume you're right. indie flyfisherman i would assume stay away from the hot new norms and stick to the basics... that's how i would look at it...
