Pennsylvania State Police are looking for armed robbers who assaulted a man and stole his car late Saturday night in Schuylkill County state gamelands.

State police at Frackville say two men armed with guns robbed a 35-year-old man in the state gamelands near Walker Township at 7 p.m. Saturday as the victim tried to head home after a day of archery hunting.

The men approached him, struck him several times with their weapons and took the keys to his 2008 Dodge Dakota and his cell phone, according to a news release.

As the men drove away, the victim ran into the gamelands where he hid overnight, state police said.

The victim emerged from the woods at 5 a.m. Sunday morning and ran to a nearby home on Valley Road. An ambulance took him to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for non-serious injuries, police said.

State troopers from the Frackville station as well as Schuykill Haven and Hamburg canvassed the scene Sunday with the help of a state police helicopter, police said.

Police are listing the incident as an attempted homicide, aggravated assault and robbery. The gray Dodge Dakota with an extended cab is still missing, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 570-874-5300.

It wouldn't surprise me if it turned out to be a drug deal that went bad.

I was wrong. The cops caught the two guys who robbed the archer and stole his truck. It is a sad state of affairs when you aren't even safe on SGLs. That is at least the third incident in the last few years where guys have been robbed or killed on SGLs in eastern PA.

I carry when I leave work, get to work and trade my personal for my duty gun, and carry back home. I used to not carry when I went fishing, but anymore I do. People will kill you for pocket change. No reason to make it easy on them.

I don't carry multiple weapons while hunting because of four-legged animals.

I would feel sorry for any SAP-SAPS that would try to rob me for my bow or wallet. The last thing they would have worry about is the law enforcement!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK AND BE SAFE Dave

    Really ?

It you'd recall correctly, the past discussion was safety.  And I said, if safety is number one concern, treestand falls should be the focus as that is the most dangerous thing in the pa woods.   If you have any further concerns about me, please contact me via pm.

Where did they get the attemted homicide, did the "robbers" fire at the victim?

IMHO, in situation like that, even if the guy was carrying a handgun he would have been foolish to go for it. 2 guys walk up on you and point guns, your asking to be shot.

Give them what they want, your life is not worth it....then run like hell and use your gun at that point to protect your life.

Good to hear the suspects were caught and the victim is ok.

    Good post. I totally agree.

If a couple of guys are pointing guns at me, the last thing I would do is try to go for mine, and selfishly make my wife a widow. A truck and bow can be replaced. Your life can't.

I'm not saying carrying is a bad idea, but I don't think it would have helped in this situation.

Give them what they want, then shoot them in the back.
