Ooops...

Just got back from a weekend trip and looked at a map. Realized we were fishing the DSR w/o a permit. We crossed the river at Staircase Pool to the north side and walked quite a ways down stream exploring and came out looking at a bunch of anglers fishing the Black Hole. We were the only ones on the other side. Anyone know the consequences if someone were to have caught us there? Obviously tresspassing, but how much could they fine you for? I did not see any posted signs at all walking the trail along the river. I did see 2 posted signs when we came out across from the Black Hole, but we were up river from them, so I thought we were ok. Nobody on the other side ever said a word to us. Guess we got lucky, but we know better for next time.

You got lucky, and surprised you even mentioned it. The areas you mentioned are patrolled and if a DSR employess asked to see your pass and you had innocently had none, they would have escorted you off the property and explained the boundries, the first time; after that, a fine.

    Hope you caught fish !!

If I remember right there is an island below the hole right where the water picks up speed. Got involved in a similar situation a long time ago there. As I recall their line is very close to the top of the run below the hole on the south side and a little further down the island on the north side. It wasnt marked well years ago and I picked up a fish by the top of the South run and landed it a little way down(released). One of the DSR guys in typical DSR form came over and politely pointed out their lines to me. He was a nice guy and pointed out their marker. No signs then just an old wire or rope as I recall. If you didnt know what it was you wouldnt have picked it out.

my understanding of the dsr sign placement is that it hits the wall at the bottom end of the black hole
but the land owner has that steep wall side posted all the way up to the stair steps
so, anyplace you were fishing on that side you were trespassing
atleast thats what i have see when fishing it

I'm wondering how in the heck the OP intended to fish off the top of a cliff.

There were two signs I saw close to where the wall begins, but none on the trail. We stayed upstream from the wall, so we thought we were ok.
