Bringing the kids

I want to take my 7 yr old daughter up to fish a day and was wondering if anyone thinks it would be worth it this early. Even if I can hook 1 and let her fight it she would love it. I know the numbers aren't there yet, but I don't think shell like it if I wait until it gets cold out. Are there any fish in trout run yet I'd like to show her that too, and my wife and 3 yr old if they tag along. This weekend looks like it would be perfect weather wise for her, but I don't know. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm going up the 1st week in Nov with the guys, and can't for that too. We've been comin up for about 7 yrs.

Right now you should do OK tossing skein off the Wall on the Nut. Elk at the launch is hit or miss. Trout run has some fish. Theey are right off shore waiting on some good RAIN!

if ur looking to take ur kid it might be worth try some of the smaller less crowed streams..  there will not be as many fish but i might make for better time for ur family.  but id deff wait for rain.

10% Of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish..... IT AIN'T LUCK

Unless you live really close to Erie I would recommend waiting until October.  Take them up on a nice sunny day when there are more fish, places holding fish, and the leaves are changing colors.

As far as stream fishing in the tribs, there are probably only about two places in the whole area that are fishable and holding anything at all right now (Lower Walnut & Elk Access).  Those two spots will be a circus act since there is really no where else to go or anywhere for fishermen to spread out.

    Uh, no.

I was at Trout Run this morning. There are a few small trout in there, and a few--few-- steelhead.

Also, the last wave action moved made the mouth a T. Part of themout drains into the lake toward the Pig Pen, the rest of the stream runs east almost half the length of the beach to the new wall.

You know I have been pondering the same thing my youngest she loves to fish and has bugged me for the last 4 years to go with dad to erie, she is 9. She is interested in all aspects of fishing, tying the flies, baiting her own hook, and even making sure we have lunch packed. lol She has not experienced a Teresa's deli samich yet so that will be an adventure in itself. Have to poke and hope to find an open spot along the wallofnuts one evening is about the only way i see for her to have a chance to experience it at its worst.lol

    Horrible idea

The moment of truth. Where all other things unconsciously melt away from our minds the instant a fish takes our fly. We stand there on the water with wide eyes, caught in a battle stance with an idea of confidence and hope

take the youngsters and have fun. dont wait till it gets to cold out cause then if they are not catching anything they will want to leave. try pinching off rhe head of a crawler and sliding the hook in the smaller end and blow it up with a worm blower. place a nice size split shot about 6 inches from the bait. just a shot big enough to hold the crawler down. i catch lots of trout and steel doing this. its something they dont see often and usually go for it.

One of the things that is often missed by the Wall of Nuts folks is that the fish will school up waaayyy out at the end of the wall. Where nobody fishes because it's too difficult and you have to reel in for the boats in and out.

Well we made reservations for sat night, so my wife and 2 kiss will be coming up sat morning with me. Thanks for all the advice guys, now I hope I can manage a fish or 2 for them. At least hopefully they'll get to see a few. Hopefully this rain helps a little, it surely won't hurt. I guess we'll probly check out walnut first then maybe elk after that.

Well we made the trip up this past weekend, and we didn't have any luck. Sat we went to elk access and fished until about 2:30 only saw 2 or 3 hookups and I had 1 hit on a foo jig and missed it. Sunday morning we tried the wall at walnut and only had 2 hits(missed them both) 1 on powerbait and 1 on brown trout egg sacks. We saw a decent amount of hookups, we left around 10:00 am to go back to hotel and get my wife and little boy. They all had fun, but couldn't get any hookups for them. Maybe next time. We went to splash lagoon too so they loved that. I might take my daughter up later on for a day sometime if I get a chance. It just wasn't meant to be last weekend.

I'm bringing my 8 year old son with me this weekend. Hopefully we get one or two but either way he'll be excited just to be there and see the fish.
