dipseys without planer boards???

can you use dipseys on rods with out using planer boards. the boat i plan to go out on this weekend for eyes is a nice size boat but not set up for planer boards but i do have dipseys. i could really use some help with this.

    yeah you can.  it's been discussed several times in the last month on how far back and what to pull with them, read back through a couple of pages of the forum.

    ORIGINAL:

    Spool up some dipsey rods with 30# wire and run dipseys off of them...

    yep, somewhere around beginning of august... just use the search function... you should find anything and everything you need

    We used to run dipsey's without boards almost exclusively, just the last couple of years that the boards became more effective. Don't need wire necessarily either, 30# braid will do. Precision trolling book is nice to have along as well...

    Thats actually how they are meant to be run, directly from your rod and inline. Its the original directional diver allowing it to, not only dive down, but also out away from your boat. The non-directional divers, such as the jet divers, are more suited for planers. Not saying that the dipsys won't work that way. Therefore, to answer your original Q....Yes you can run your dipsys from the rodholders on the boat without using planer boards. We do it all the time! Preferrably with the bigger dipsys.
