THE RUN IS ON!

Again today the DSR reports the lower end is filling with fish, those that are there must be having a ball. This is after yesterday when another big push of fish came in.Weather will be cooling down from tonight on,and they have been getting plenty of rain so there is lots of water. It will be a steady push of fish from now on.
The only problem with this is that I won't be there until the 19th!I'm trying not to think about it :)

I wish you wouldnt post things like that, the dsr reports like that to fill their parking lot with paying customers. I have been on the river 3 of the last 5 days and there is no "big run" I have seen yet. I have hooked up when ive gone up but the numbers ive seen dont even come close to what is being posted. There will be fish on the 19th Im sure but if people posted facts there would also be alot less fisherman.

just spent 4 days there, caught a good number of fish, but no big runs, people going nuts over a pod of 10 fish.get excited when a few hundred come porpoising by.Fished the DSR,did better way up river, but I was not focused on salmon, well kings or coho.If you want to fish without the crowd's,the next few weeks is the time to do it.The DSR lot,was not close to full, alot of people not spending the cash.Good for those that do.

i fished DSR on monday and it was pretty hot. my brother fished on tuesday and it was dynamite. hey 3fan, didn't you witness a pod of cohos running up and then coming back down and then just repeating that. don't you think they might do that from the start. what would make them do that only in the upper river? i've watched fish run back and forth half way up the dsr and then back to estuary 3 days in a row. this is a fact. so maybe lay off the non fact based posts. i think it's more of a DSR bashing thing that you should come to terms with

you know what, if everybody is so anti DSR why even check the reports. and why even base your trips around it's reports... it is very true that these fish circle and somtimes it is a couple of mile span that they circle in. why does it always turn in to a contest or finger pointing game of what's really going on in the river. it's only a 9 mile fishable stretch of river, but a lot happens in 9 miles. i have never seen DSR lie about a report for the 20 years i've been going there. like i said before i've seen them go back and forth for days in a row. i've seen them school up in the black hole for days in a row. i've also seen them come in and just stay in one area for days in a row. while some pods straggle through. how can one conclude on a report and make a statement based on assumption if they didn't witness the reality of the actual moment and place in time? why would one conclude also that just because DSR did good, that ALL of those fish will keep going? i know that i saw atleast 50 fish on stringers and probably 500 fish hooked the day i was there in the .5 mile stretch i was fishing. and the one fish i kept; had digested food in it's stomach. i wouldn't be surprised of many of the fish i hooked are still down there. tight lines guys...

DB, I didn’t read into it as bashing the place just not paying to fish which is strange because I think the words “used to guide” came up.. .
We all know you love the place and I also feel it's the best area (water wise) for "salmon" fishing and I would not have given up my pass if I were still or had future plans of salmon fishing .
But it is just another fishing spot among many on the tribs so maybe lighten up the letters DSR ? .. Please don't take it wrong in a bad way, I love reading your reports..
    As for their reports :
I have fished it for years and in the many years of calling hotline and finally reading their reports online , I do tend to think they use overly excitable words at times.. I take the reports at slightly less then face value and during winter only look at river conditions..

Had thoughts of fishing there Friday but BROOKIES BEWARE !!!
Have fun and , really , lets see some fish porn !!! All these letters hurt my eyes..

tuna, my only point is that i was there and my brother was the next day as well. when somebody states that they don't believe something that i winessed first sight; i speak up for myself. it's my nature. let me ask you; have you ever witnessed salmo0n and steelhead do what i have said i've seen them do in regards to the back and forth non sense? thats my only point. and won't try to prove it ever again. you are right. i will lighten up... but trust me; everyone... these fish circle more than you think. and as i've said before... disregard reports... find out for yourself... it's the only way... tight lines to all. and trust me, your lines will be very tight with the size of the fish that are entering the river

Fished in the ballpark yesterday. The morning till about 10:00 was good then had to do a little fish hunting. About 1:00 things picked up again. The morning fish was showing color, the ones in the evening were a nice silver, both kings and coho. Even some steelhead in the mix. The ones I landed consisted of 5 kings, 1 coho, 1 steelhead. The bigger pods I saw go by consisted of about a dozen fish, but mostly 1-3 fish at a time. By this weekend you should see salmon from one end to the other so no need to fish on top of each other. Also love when a guide chews someone out for keeping a foul hooked fish and not ten minutes later i watched him do the same thing, pretty obvious when you reel the fish in sideways. Come join the circus!!!!

Stress is just one hookset away from being gone.

A report- from a non guide who doesnt own a fishing shop or any land alongside the river---just a old guy who likes to fish and on the odd occasion actually catches one,-then lets it go.

Got there Wed. afternoon and fished above the ballpark a few times when not doing the lawn, trimming apple trees and repairing plumbing on my upstate place. All trips in the PM cause of the darned maintainence work.

Wed PM was very good fishing with a steady trickle of fish for a few hours till dark-very few other fishermen and the fish took flies readily under NO PRESSURE conditions. It was overcast with an occasional drizzel.

Same place Thurs. pm under rainy and windy conditions with LOTS of pressure from herders and fish chasers as well as those guys who insist on standing in the middle of the run. Not nearly as many fish but some here and there-all spooked. Cloudy and rainy.

Friday mid day-zippo- half a dozen guys to each rare fish and they actually were chasing them  up river slapping away at them. Sometimes 2 or 3 guys at a time. Sunny with occasional cloud cover.

It must have been better fishing early AM both Thurs and Fri. as I saw a lot of fish on stringers.
Typical early Sept fishing a slow to bad day or two for each OK one==a good early trip.

Thanks for the compliment-I guess reports can very from guy to guy depending where you were and when but I grow weary of those GREATEST EVER reports that draw guys up to fish when not much is going on. I think that can cause some disappointment and create a lot of the snagging and chasing for the few fish there actually are.
If the simply tell folks that if they come up they may catch a real nice fish or two on a trip they will enhance the quality expectations of a trip and stop this catch so many you will grow longer arms mentality.

Thanks for the realistic report, not one biased by a Guide or a D.S.R. supporter trying to make a buck. As far as the goons, there are always those where ever you have salmon, however the real issue is the limited number of streams that have salmon in them. If New York planted the salmon in more rivers along lk ontario, and in the rivers feeding the St.Lawrence then the number of fishermen would be spread out and not congested in one location. THis is the real issue as I see it. When you have salmon so close to major cities theres the over crowding that comes with it.

Having come from Michigan, I can say that there have been times during the major part of the rum when I have only seen one or two other fishermen all day. This is because every stream that flows into Lakes Michigan, Huron and Superior get large runs of salmon and steelhead. Just look at LSSU.EDU Fish Cam as I posted over on the PA / fish erie site and you will be amazed.

If New York followed the same kind of philosophy on planting fish then there would be less problems.

Boycott any place that makes you pay to fish. We have paid for the fish with our tax dollars and license fees!
