Olean , NY Sportshow Sept 11th-12th

Just wanted to make some of you folks aware the Olean Sportshow is this upcoming weekend . I have donated a trip to be raffled off and there will be other outtfitters for both hunting & fishing doing the same ... Hope to see you there ... info listed below ..... DC

Greater Olean Area Outdoor & Rec Sports Show








ARCHERY * DOG RETRIEVAL * FISHING POND * SCUBA * CAMO RUN * SKEET SHOOT *


The Greater Olean Area Outdoor & Rec Sports Show, sponsored by The City of Olean and the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Saturday September 11, 10 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday, September 12, 10 AM to 4 PM. The show will encompass the William O. Smith Recreation Center, the War Veterans Park, and Bradner Stadium. As more individuals and families travel shorter distances from home and take shorter vacations or mini-vacations, the Rec / Sports Show will provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities close to home. Exhibits will include camping, paddle sports, hiking, cycling, all-terrain vehicles, hunting, snow and water-skiing, snowmobiling, bird watching, fishing, and more!

CAMOUFLAGE RUN – The Twin Tiers Striders and the Olean-Bradford YMCA will present the Camo Run/Walk 5K race on Saturday, September 11. The race will begin in the Bradner Stadium, registration at 9 AM, with race starting at 9:30 AM. The entry fee is for current and former members of the military and reserves FREE, Twin Tiers Striders members $12 and all others $17. The fee includes free entrance to the show. The first 25 entrants will receive a pair of running socks. The male and female overall runners and overall walker will receive a New Balance runners’ t-shirt. Registration forms are available at GOACC or at the YMCA. Please support our troops – please bring an item to be sent to members of our Armed Forces who are serving overseas.

SCUBA LESSONS -- J&D Scuba Shop of Allegany will be hosting scuba demonstrations during the Sports Show in the William O. Smith Recreation Center swimming pool. Times are Saturday 1 PM, 2 PM, 3 PM and 4 PM, and Sunday at 11 AM. The fee for this intro to scuba demo is $15. Pre-registration is required, participants need to be 15 years (with parent) and older, and need to bring a swimsuit. All scuba gear (mask, fins, BCD, tank and regulator) will be provided. ARCHERY -- The Enchanted Mountain 3-D Archery Stadium ShootOut sponsored by Windfall Archery and the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce will be held Saturday, September 11 at Bradner Stadium in Olean. On site registration and open practice will be at 11 AM, with official scoring starting at Noon.

The shootout fees are early registrations adult, $25 and youth $15, with on-site registrations of $30 / $20. The targets are 30-Rinehart A.S.A. targets. Shooting classes are first class -- kids 15 years and under with compounds hunter classification with or without sights sight with no more than 4 pins without lens or magnification, stabilizers no longer than 12”; second class - adults - traditional shoots recurve or longbow for finger shooters no stabilizers or sights; third class - adults hunter class for compounds, with or without sights - sign with no more than 4 pins without lens or magnification - stabilizers no longer than 12”; and fourth class - adults open class for compounds, with no restrictions on sights, stabilizers or style of release

The shoot out rules are: an official scorer will score everyone; no more than 80 pound bow and shoot no more than 280 F.P.S.; arrow weights no less than 5 grains per pound of bow poundage; mo range finders or binoculars with more than 8.5 magnification are allowed; no talking while shooting; and there will be a time limit to shoot.

CALL OFF -- Come test your calling skills at the Greater Olean Area Rec and Sport Show. The Southern Tier Outfitters Duck and Goose Call Off will be held Saturday. Registration is 11 AM – Noon with the contest starting at 1 PM. This is a meat competition in both duck and goose with a junior and adult division. Entry fees are junior division ($15 per caller), adult division ($25 per caller), and for two-man goose calling ($50). Payout is based on entries. OFF ROAD COURSE -- Charlie’s Cycle Center will be creating an Off Road Course in War Veterans Park and let people get behind the wheel and discover the Polaris and Suzuki ATV quality and performance on their own in a fun, no-pressure environment. To drive, show-goers must be 18 or older and have a current driver's license. There is no additional fee to drive or participate in the event.

CHECK OUT THE OLLIES and GRINDS -- Allegany Skate Park will feature its park’s TEAM RIDERS from FBM Bikes, Kink Bikes, and Razor in demos. The Skate Park constructed a Fly Box (4’ high, 8’ wide with a top deck 8’ long) that will help launch riders in the air or do tricks on the top surface. They also are bringing some grind rail that they slide their skates/bikes across the top. Check out their ollies, grinds, and feebles while the riders perform on BMX bikes, Inline and Skateboards.

WPIG and HOME DEPOT BRAGGING WALL – The show would like to invite deer hunters to bring mounted deer heads to display on the Home Depot / WPIG-FM Bragging Wall. If you have a deer that you’ve taken in New York or Pennsylvania and would like to display it at the Sports Show, please call John at 716-946-9936. Anyone who reserves a spot to display their head will receive free admission to the show.

FISHING POND -- Lake Lane Resort, this private hunting/fishing resort in Olean for big & small game is creating a show fish pond ( in War Veterans Park) filled with bass, "various kinds of trout", bluegill & bullhead!

DOG RETREIVER CHALLENGE -- The Sports Show will host a Companion Retriever Hunting Challenge (C.R.H.C.) on Sunday. The C.R.H.C. will begin at Noon with two levels: Level one will consist of single retrieves in an actual goose and duck hunting scenario. Level two will consist of more difficult scenarios, but again in real hunting situations. Handlers must be at least 12 years old to participate. Prizes will be cash for first place in both levels and trophies will be given for first, second and third place.
