bird dogs

Thinking about training my pup sage to run birds she just turned 7 months. What i was wondering is there anyone local to girard that has trained there dog already that could give me some pointers on how to start or even help in the process. I just picked up a tri-tronics training collar for her and would like to get the full use out of it. thanks *larry*

Check with a local hunting "preserve", they will usually help you out some with training. Wish I had the time to put into that these days, someday....

Just spoke to my buddy and he said i can put a recall pen on his property as long as he can hunt with us lol... Now i need to search the net for plans on how to build one that will stay there.

learn how to use the collar correctly.  it can be both the best training aid and worst, depend on how you use it.  i recommend you get a pro to get you started on the right path and they have access to birds.

If she is like her mom, she,ll be a natural. As riz said , be careful of the coller.
You do not want to have her scared to do something.
Spend lots of lots of time with you. A bird preserve is an excellant place to get started.
They can point you in the right direction. Mika retrieved her first bird (a goose) at 11 months.
A year later she was running pheasants. The more time you spend hunting with her the more she understands what it is all about.
The biggest thing is to have her understand when to go and not get over anxiouse. Hard to do.lol
Ifd ya want to take her, there is a bird reserve in Kinsman. Good place for her to have fun.
Give me a shout and we can do this.:)
