Rough Lake

This is my first real fishing summer on the lake and it seems that there has been a lot of big water days. I got caught Friday off the point in 3 to 5'ers with my 20' Thompson. Wasn't a fun ride back to Walnut. Has July/August been as bad as I imagine or am I just a wausssssss?

Lake Erie changes from day to day, sometimes minute to minute. Keep your eyes on the wave forecast

If you want to fish Erie on a regular basis get used to 3-5s, or you could take up golf.

Yep, get something at least 24' or larger with a hard top and those rough days will be slightly more comfortable.

I've been on the water more than a few times where I wished they were 3-5's. It's just part of Erie, with a 20'er there are days where you might not be able to bet out. My dad once on vacation traded in his 20'er for a 24" cause he was tired of not being able to fish.

I don't think you are a wussy. I've been thinking it has been rough a lot too. Maybe it is just that on the calm days, I can't go. Last trip I had two out of four hanging over the side.   Green riders.

I'm sure most who fish Erie on a regular basis would agree to that statement....I agree

Constant 4 footers are miserable to fish in ANY size boat. You just gotta get used to it on Erie.

Chance, Usually in August, I remember getting more calm days than in June and July. This year I quess I have just been hitting it on the Bad days. There might have been plenty of 2 or less days, but I just kept missing most of them. I have no trouble fish'n in 3 to 5's and I have a 21 footer. It just take's a long time to get anywhere. It's hard setting up when your bouncing around. I've been on much bigger boats and it's still tuff.

My Wife said, if I go fish'n one more time, she'll leave me! God, I'm going to miss her!

Captain John (EJ) said this is the WORST season he has had for cancelled trips since he started...

This would appear to confirm my observation regarding rough lake conditons this summer.

That's a guy that's going pretty much every day, so you think he's right. Maybe I'm just getting a little crazier in my old age, but I didn't have any trips this year that I didn't fish (because of conditions). Seemed like more "rollers" this year as opposed to caps.
