Pickerel

What is the best time and bait for pickerel catching? I love the fight these guys offer but only get the experience once in a bluemoon. How can i catch more pickerel!?

have no idea where ur located but Duman Lake in cambria county has a pretty good number of them. wouldnt drive 2hrs to fish it but if u live near it or are in the area it might be worth a try.

10% Of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish..... IT AIN'T LUCK

My best experiences with pickerel and pike is early in the morning (until about 10am) and later in the afternoon (4:30 -5pm) after the wind dies down they seem to go on a feed. I think the brighter sun effects their vision, shuts them down, and drives them deeper. Minnows (big), spoons (Daredevil, Williams, Pixie - with an erratic retrieve), spinners and plugs all work well when they feed! Caught some big ones (pickeral & pike) in Henderson Harbor, NY and Caroga Lake! Good Luck!

If I lived that close to the "Big Apple", I'd drive north on the Northway to the Adirondaks for some quality time and "fish all day"! Tight lines!

I fish the Pocono area and do well on small spinner baits. Strike King Micro 1/8 oz made for crappies. They love them, but anything flashey will do. Work the weed bed egdes, just like you do for bass. They will nail a bass fly on the surface to, to one on a mega diver and my 5wt.
