The best hook knot

Hey guys. I was fishin yesterday and hooked a monster bass. Right when i was fighting him up to the shore, he took a dive and my hook knot gave out. This is NOT the first time this has happened. So PLEASE, what is the best way to tie a hook knot? I'm tired of losin bi fish.
Thanks,
Bryan

Check this site out ---> KNOT WEBSITE

I prefer a Palomar knot for nearly all applications, except for flyfishing. It will work equally as well on braid as it will on mono. Next in line for me would be a uni knot.

If you were using clinch knot - I had the same problem until I bought one of these:

Palomar is also a good knot!

What kind of line were you using?

    Bryan,

Are you loosing the straight fish too?...or just the bi ones?

I've used an improved clinch on near everything since I was 10 yrs old. Works fantastic and is an easy knot to tie.

I don't always snag fish, but when I do...
    I choose Little Cleos

I'm the best looking smartest snagging poacher alive...

The NAFC TV show used to have a special called "Knot Wars", Google it and I'm sure you can find videos on Utube of it. It was pretty cool. Didn't know there were so many different knots out there.

    Just a suggestion here...

Leave the 4# line at home when fishing for "monster bass". Go with 8-10# and I would be willing to bet your troubles are resolved.

    Fishallday420,

Make sure your line is wet before ya secure the knot. Add some spit to your knot. I think the friction made from securing a dry knot weakens it. The Palomar knot is my favorite. take esox's advice and get rid of the 4lb. as well. I never use anything less than 6lb for bass but mostly fish with 8lb line on my spinning rig.

on top of all that, if you're using really thin line and large hooks (like 4lb with a 1/0 wire thickness hook) then you really want to use a hook that does two turns through the eye, ala trilene knot. The problem with light lines happens when the line that wraps around the hook wire doesn't get a lot of surface area contact with the wire. At the point of the knot where the base of the knot meets the line coming around the eye you'll get a tear drop shape to the line which seriously weakens the knot. It happens to all knots that pass through the eye singly, but it becomes a problem when you're fishing really light line and a bigger hook.

    Thanks

In my opinion, the best hook shot of all time was the "skyhook" by Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

If anyone cares the best knot I have ever used for fluro is a double uni knot. You can find it on you tube a little hard to do at first but once you get it you will be very happy with the way it performs! Also the palamor knot is great just remember to retie every so often it has a tendency to cut into it self.

Here's another vote for the Palomar knot.... I then paint on a bit of super glue...Not sure if the super glue actually helps.
