Tail doesn't have a white spot @ the tip but the sides are gold and not the typical sauger color (from the Allegheny river sauger have had a charcoal grey and tan desert camo pattern on their sides). my guess would be a saugeye or walleye that doesn't have a white tip on the tail? what body of water?
Got my first walleye in Pine Creek and it was the catalyst for my fishing obsession that began over 10 years ago. Man, you have some fun days ahead of you.

You took all the good healthy slime, holding that fish like a cheeseburger.  Could of just pinched it behind the gills and held the tail.

slab, it was my first fish with teeth, i had no freaking idea how to hold it, used to holding bass by the lip, cant do that with this fish so i held it the best way i could.

nice fish. dont sweat it, youre fine. youll catch a lot more and a lot bigger if you keep fishing the rivers. good luck.

Won't be long and you will be taking Dad's new boat out on the river by yourself and trying different ways to catch more and bigger critters with teeth. Don't give up on the cats and carp - they are always fun to catch.

to be honest the catfish and carp i have caught have put up twice the fight if not three times the fight that the sauger/saugeye did, plus i love sitting by the river with a fire and my good friends, cant beat that
