redfishing....

Got a weak tide and some strong wind
hit the ramp, lined up, and had some beers

tide came up enough to get out
made it to the look-out to wait

waiting...
the flats high and dry

water comes up and pushes these little guys out

water didn't push as much as we hoped
i got a shot wading while buddy kept on lookout

i trout set on a fish that blew up on my fly
the second one i made sure a strip set and popped 15#

out on a flat

saw a bunch of tails
got 2 eats
got blanked

what made it worse was that we were talking about sets right as the fish went up on tail
made a good cast... and i was expecting the fish to drop and feel the take
instead, it blew up at the fly
super quiet and isolated area, lots of chilling out, watching and waiting up to this point
    then this eruption
i lifted that rod so fast

the next one i was so focus on the strip and doing it "the right way"
tip in the water.... slow soft strips... fish drops... i feel it
    POP
my buddy over my left should nearly got a strip set to the junk
it was a 3ft set that was more suited for a 50in pike or one of your Rollers

This was the first year that I didn't screw up a tarpon bite with a rod lift.  Maybe after 10 years it is finally sinking in.

A roller strike might be a little excessive on a redfish.  I try to take the strip from the stripper guide to behind my back.  Hopefully it graps solid somewhere along the way.

Never fished for redfish, but want to.  If I can just get than darn Permit off my Bucket List, I could clear the way.
