Shenango River Lake

Might make a trip down there next weekend or so. My only question is, do they have any shore fishing down there. Drove down to tamarack lake and only found about 2 small spots.

    Lots of shore fishing at the lake. The only place youy can't fish is in side the game preserve. The rest of the lake is open. The water level is down so you will be able to walk almost any shoreline you select.

    there is a ton of shoreline fishing on shenango. always did good at night under causeways for crappies and whitebass or hybrids. and not spot burning i did not identify which causeways.

    pole_doc  thanks for the post of the trib article made for some interesting reading. I am not surprised by the numbers from that lake i have fished it a lot in the past in spring and fall and always done well.

    That report is all wrong the blue navy came there the day after they netted those fish and caught every fish in the lake.

    Alright, I was reading another thread and bears were brought up. What is the chance of running into a bear down there.

    You have a greater chance of seeing a bare bottom than a bear. Never saw one around, been fishing there since they put the dam in. You might get a chance to see the eagles that are around the area though.

    fished shenango on sunday,cats are hitting good and white bass are still feeding.i saw the eagle around the chestnut run area,hes a beautiful bird and a joy to watch.

    fished shenango today from dark till noon. trolled planer boards with crawler harnesses and also a few plugs.Channel Cats are hitting real well caught 5 cats 3 white bass and a couple of blue gills all trolling on boards.was hoping for a walleye!!!!

    Im from the city(erie), aint used to bears WTF. I took my cousin driving when he had his permit. we drove I told him directions( I didnt know where the hell I was going) we ended up in warren, A black bear stopped traffic, It kinda scared me. I didnt know what to expect. Funny now but at the time it thru me off.

    The large stripers were hitting today in 17 fow. Any point I went across trolling had them stacked on it. Most in the 20 inch+ range. Also caught a smallmouth around 4 or 5 lbs. Looked like he came from lake Erie, big, fat, and dark colored. Caught him on a jig and tail in 20 fow. Also a bull head and one small eye.

    Anyplace there to rent a boat?

    My wife told me that if I didn't stop fishing every day, she'd leave me. Some days, I really miss her.

    IMO one of the best catfish lakes in pa 34'' 15# and i was 10 yrs old i caught the biggest fish that day. my reward getinng a beer(or 2) from my uncle by the camp fire and that was 11 yrs ago

    Fished the lake this morning just for giggles. Started out with a lost eye at the net and one small northern. Hit a hump and the largemouth were stacked on it. First trolling pass I caught 2 in the 16-18 inch range. Made another pass and had a very strong hit nearly pulling the pole out of the boat. Grabbed the pole and set the hook and it was like setting the hook and a snag. It wouldn't move. Than a large boil behind the boat and I thought either a large striper or muskie. 5 minutes later I see a fish flash than another. I caught (2) largemouths at the same time on the same lure, no wonder it was hard bring in. Fish 1 was 17 inches and weighted about 4# caught on the front treble and fish 2 was was 15 inches and 3# and caught on the rear treble. Made 3 more passes and caught one more 14 inches. All came from the same area maybe 20 foot in size.

    my girlfriend and i were out trolling last sunday,we hooked up with 3 big largemouths at the same time.results were 1 in the boat 21 inches,i wrapped around the other trolled line each with a big largmouth on them.we lost 1 rod out of the boat with fish on and the other one broke her off.it was crazy but we both laughed about it all the rest of the day,guess it wont ever happen again in my lifetime.

    mahany is an arm of the lake that runs to the dam .theres a launch there also called mahany.fished the lake today and caught many big white bass and some stripers.good day it was,ill be back at em tomorow mornin.if your up there look for a alumacraft lunker ltd mag.thats me.

    Well It was ok trip. We caught a catfish at the **** spillway, a couple striped bass(small ones), perch and bluegill. We didnt find to many spots from the shore, maybe we didnt look hard enough. I found a sign that said public access so I drove up to this booth like thing. A guy asked what he could do  for me I told him were looking for a place to fish. He said that area is for campers only.

    Imma go back out next summer when I have my boat. Last stop of the summer will be kinzua dam.

    i think its called mahaney recreation area its a boat launch w/ shore fishing. very popular heavy pressure.
