TOPSAIL ISLAND N.C

Okay this is kind of off topic but i am going on vaca in 2 1/2 weeks to topsail and was wondering if any of you can give me some shore fishing advice. they say they catch flounder and those ocean trout off the piers and in the inlets so i was looking for some tips on how to pick them up. any advice would be very helpful.

I was there on vacation last year, fished from the beach and from the Surf City Pier. Caught mainly blues, use a bottom right with shrimp. I had better luck on the pier. Alot of the guys on the pier were using plugs for the trout.

If you are targeting flounder they sell flounder rigs at the Pier bait shop.

Out of two pier trips, got 5 decent flounder on 1/4 oz jig and a white twister. Old habits die hard !

I went to the outer banks this year and it depends what the water is like and that will tell you whats biting. Go to the pier and ask them they will tell you all you need.

Use Got-cha' plugs they are best thing to use to catch blue's or spanish mackeral. If you just want to catch flounder maybe a stray blue or some spot or flounder just use a pompano rig with a 1-2 oz pyramid sinker on the bottom.

I made 1 pier trip me and my buddy got about 30 blues between us in 2 hours. Caught many more that fell off while pulling up to the pier didnt count them. Had 1 spanish mackeral on but fell off while realing up to pier. All caught on Got-cha's

Fished the surf city pier in topsail two years ago. I only caught a few small blues. Gf caught a huge bonnett head shark. Talk to the guys at the pier shop. They know thier stuff. Nighttime sgark fiahing there is really productive if u have big enuff gear
