Middle Allegheny Trip - Help?

Here's the scenario: 7/22-7/25, three oldtimers - all brothers - returning to the "scene of the crime": The place where my parents used to take us 50 years ago, Oleopolis (just around the corner from Henry's Bend) where granny had a cottage. So happy to hear that casinos or other development don't dot the banks of the Mighty Allegheny - and that there is no offshore drilling (lol). I've gotten some good advice from another forum, now I'll try this one. We are staying in President in a cabin. How do we best get the three of us (total weight about 300 lbs) downriver from President to Oleopolis. We have a 12' flatbottom jon boat which we can either bring or leave at home (in the Baltimore area)? So far, we are considering canoe, raft, and float tube. Is the terrain walkable along the shoreline from our end point back to starting point? It looks like about 4 miles on the map. Are we better off wade-fishing this stretch of river? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I think any of choices would work. Thats a fairly short trip. The river is low now and I THINK you can walk the shoreline. My choice would be a canoe or kayak. If you are staying at President ask those people I am sure they can tell you. Canoe rentals are popular in this area so you might want to do that instead a dragging your boat along. If you need more help let me know. Phone # for Turtle Bay Lodge in President....814-677-8785

I would canoe the river in that section.  The river is low right now.  There is some rain in the forecast but probably will not rise much.  There are a couple different rental places in the area.   You could also wade some of the river as well.

Sounds like a fun trip on a good section of river. Canoe would be best, as a 12 ft Jon won't give you much room for error with 3 guys. Can you leave a vehicle at Oleopolis? If so, then you are set, just canoe down and then tack the back roads up to Tionesta and back to President. If not, then consider a shuttle or vehicle at Henry's Bend. It's right across from Oleopolis and on the same side of the River as President. Maybe check with the folks in President if anyone has a jet sled they would rent you, as it would be fine to get you down and back. It's mostly deeper water between those two points, but watch the riffle coming into Oleopolis--it can get skinny there. BTW-always good bass in front of Ahrensville/Walnut Bend...
    Good Luck--have fun.
