Otter Creek - Mercer PA, off of E. Cornell Road

Anyone ever fish in otter creek, off of rt 19 just North of mercer? Ive been hearing of guys catching 45in pike in there, but trying to figure out the right holes to fish in.

The creek doesnt look like much, but ive heard from more than one place guys have been pulling legit fish out of there.

Anyone have any info? Thanks.

ive fished parts of it in the past and caught a few small pike. no matter how shallow the water is cast along the shore looking for deep pockets.

What bait? I was thinking either chubs or throwing spoons.

fished in otter for all my life. There are lots of pike and yellow buulheads. Was north of rattlesnake a few weeks back landed 7 missed 1 the biggest was around 15. The biggest I ever got there was 29 but they average under 18.

My dad and I use to fish rattlesnake swamp. We would put a canoe upsteam use a chub with a bobber on it. then we would just drift down stream and let the bobber go where it wanted to. We got some really big pike out of that little creek, also I would shoot some Bull Frogs on the way down and put them on ice
As far as otter creek we fish on the right side of RT 19 the pike always run around mother day weekend So my dad said

Use to catch pike in there over 40 inches but that was close to 50 years ago. Ha Ha. Fish there in the morning than big bend, Shenango river, in the afternoon. This was back before the dam was put in. Braided line and old casting reels with the clickers. Fried egg sandwiches with water from the spring provided some mighty fine lunches back than.

I catch 3 or 4 every year in that creek that are 35 to 40 inches. I fish closer to scrubgrass road and not in the swamp. they are in coolspring and neshanock creeks also.

i fish coolspring 30 days a year and have never seen a pike caught.maybe there are some in the sections it is not stocked heavily w/ trout. i know they are in neshannock and otter. there would have to be a few in coolspring, you would think.

If you are only there during trout season or are in the delayed harvest section then you won't see them caught. I fish there close too 100 days a year. If you know where the big holes are that have crappie and big perch in them you are close to the right spots.

I have never caught a pike in Coolspring, but I have seen a couple in the delayed harvest area. I took the kids to the Neshannock last year for trout fishing. It was on the afternoon of the first in-season stocking. There was a pike hanging around in front of us for awhile. He was pretty big- 36+". He would leave for awhile but then would come back and hang out some more. We were in an area that the stock truck could have easily backed right up to the creek that morning- if you know what I mean. I couldn't help but think that pike ate pretty good that day! I have caught many pike in Otter creek, but never anything over 24". I caught a rainbow trout up by "the tubes" last year which I thought was kinda odd. I guess if the pike can go far downstream then the trout can go far upstream.

the big hole i am thinking of,i have only fished about 5 times in my life. i havent went there for a few years because of the parking situation(they roped off the pulloff). i actually thought they posted that land, but a  friend recently told me that you are still allowed to fish. the pike should be large from all the panfish and trout.

Bigben7 that is one of them. How to tell when the big pike are in there is there will be 5 or 6 cars parked on the road. Once the word gets out that some are in that hole people fish it 24/7 until they're caught. Another hole is near the bridge on scrubgrass road.
