just getting started, advice?

I just started fishing again after many years. I'm fishing a big pond connected to shenango river. There are big fish in there but all i keep getting are little cats, trout, gills and sunfish. I want something bigger! What size hook, bait? Running out of ideas......

    It's really sort of simple, big fish like big meals.  Go with a #2 hook and a nightcrawler and get it deep (about 10-12 feet)  let us know how you do.

    Or, hook a bluegill in the back - take your fingernail clipper and clip his fins so he swims erratic, plus the sharp spikey ones!!
