Fireline

Does anyone know how long fireline or any braided line is good for.

walleye , I would take fireline over braid for small spinning tackle. 4 to 6 lb test is perfect for most light tackle fishing using lures. Superraids and fireline are a poor choice for livebait fishing because if and when it tangles, it is way more difficult to untangle than mono lines. I always carry two spools one mono and one fireline for each reel i take fishing. Fireline is better imho than braids..I am trying the high performance sufix 6 lb. braid this season and so far, it seems okay but i still prefer the fireline original fusion over any braids for ultra light spincasting

Depends on the amount of fishing you do really.

I use my fireline for a season, then spool it onto another reel so the worn part is now inside & I get another season out of the line.
    2 years total.

I could probably get 2 seasons on each end, making 4 total seasons of fishing on 1 spool of line....
but I don't trust it that long & buy new every other year.
Better safe than sorry I figure.

all i know is from my own experience comparing a few superlines. I tried spiderwire and that surely knotted up in a hurry (garbage imo) went back to fireline.. sure it can knot but only if you don't take a little more care using it compared to regular mono. it fires as hence its name! just be sure each cast and retrieve it isn't hung up or looped loose on the spool or around you guide tip etc. if you use a quality 10 barrel and tippet mono as I do.. you will find this to be the best performance spin casting lines available on the market. I been trying the sufix braid and i'm so far not sure yet about long term endurance but it sure is louder through the guides. So I just purchased me another 125yd spool of original fusion fl in 6lb. I like using 8lb. quality flouro or green maxima for tippets for jigging, trolling and spooning.

pork agree, I usually can tell just by looking at fireline between the leader and sometimes i'll test it with a pull snap between my hands.. not enough to cut meself but if it breaks, i know it is time to switch ends.. after that it could be 3 or four seasons before a new spool ..that is if i'm that lucky not to knot or cut or break itdown the line. A full 125 yd of 6lb. fireline will spool perfectly my 1000 Stradic,, i use about 10 yds of 6lb mono backing.

I am going on 6 years on my Power Pro on my Stadic 2500 and it is still going strong.  I think it is 20# rated/6 or 8# dia.  Not sure.  Braid will get to looking pretty rough and faded (older Fireline formulations especially) but is still good to use.  Fireline seems to flatten, fray and separate a lot easier than the other braids but, I am only comparing the older versions of Fireline.  I switched to Power Pro many years ago but still have a reel or two with Fireline on it.

Gorilla Braid is another good, reasonably priced braid.  If you want really good stuff, try Jerry Brown.

I have had the same 250 yards of 20lb fireline on my trolling rods for 7 years. I have cut off the last 4-5' feet a couple ties to remove frays (next season I may reverse the line). In that time I have had zero line failures.

I have had the same spools of 6lb and 10lb on my perch rods for the past 3 years. Same story.

    Good Stuff.

I don't use fireline that much but I do the same thing Pork does with all my lines.
