shenango river

Has anyone had any luck fishing the river for walleyes or musky this year? We've been fishing between pymy and shenango and haven't had much luck

Two weeks ago you couldn't keep the stripers off the lures. Those darn things sure did mess up that lake. You start trolling for eyes and bam you get one, reel it in and cast out and the same thing happens over and over. Had to switch to a different spot for eyes tired of catching those garbage fish.

The biggest one was 31 inches. Most were in the mid 20 inch range. They are starting to set up home now on the humps and bars. The fish were hovering around the 10-13 foot range over 18 foot of water. They wanted any lure that had black and gold on it. I was trolling a silver and black lure also but had no hits on it. Trolling speed was 2.3 mph.

31" is nice ! Was up last week and hit them on everything from tubes to spinner baits to shad raps. Nothin over 22" or so. Still fun to bend the rod !

Just a tip for those who keep white bass . Stripers have a golden colored eye while white bass are almost silver. Stripers have a 20'' limit size. Don't mix em up it will cost you! Walleye are still the best eating...........toss those stripers and whites back so they can control those shad.

Gizmo, was that in the river or lake? I talked to a guy a few days ago that had a couple eyes on a stringer. Said he caught 3 more smaller ones. One looked to be a bit short of the 15" size limit but he said it was 17".

In the lake Chaunce. all but one from the channel cutting the shoal up by Golden Run. Smallest kept was 16, biggest was a little over 18.

I never did see the shad spawn this year. Very strang, usually when they are in the river so are the stripers. Saw a friends cooler Sunday that was full of nice crappie. He was getting them between the railroad bridges.
