Gloomis

Does anyone know anything about the new series that G-Loomis is bringing out on August 13th 2010? It's suppose to redefine fishing... And it's taken them 17 years to develop or create this rod... I'm so excited I own 2 gloomis and love them and am about to add a 3rd to my collection...

Yea i know what you mean some people can't believe you would spend that on a rod I've gotten comments like why would you spend over 100 dollars on a rod when you can just get an ugly stick for 30

Umm... Ya go pick up an ugly stick 5'10" or something very close to then pick up a Gloomis 5'10" GL2 and tell me the difference is exactly what i've said to them... They have no idea what you get when you go into mid range/expensive non japanese rods.

Oh ya trust me I know, i'm patiently awaiting the new series.... Untill then I guess I gotta buy my 3rd Gloomis... I'm thinking a 6'3" Bronzeback rod maybe... Or maybe it won't be a gloomis but a JDM rod...

you know, i fish mostly st. croix sticks, and i love the feel of a nice rod, but i have buds who fish ugly sticks, lightning rods, and cheaper fenwicks and they are much better fishermen than i ever will be, and i have been at it for 50 years.  just as with baseball bats, a good hitter will still produce with a cheap bat.  wish i would have kept all my cheaper rods now.  they always caught fish.  just sayin.......

It's nothing really revolutionary.  All the major players are coming out with a line of rods using a new cloth & resin system for 2011.  The resin is supposed to be XX% lighter and XX% stronger.  Can't remember the exact numbers quoted to be by Jason Bruner of St. Croix at the rod expo in February.

My one buddy who I fish with quite often uses a Mitchell Advocat and an old Shimano combo and he doesn't catch more fish but he does catch more trout in a day then I will in a whole year... He's at like 10 or 15 when i've gone with him and i'm at 1... And i wasn't with him so I don't think the rods make it that they catch more also he fishes strictly live bait soo maybe that has something to do with it. Also, I think it mainly depends on what you're fishing for and what technique you are trying to use...

The rod is a tool and in the hands of the right fisherman an expensive rod will out fish a cheap rod. A lot of it depends on the skill of the fisherman give a novice a 30 dollar rod and a 300 dollar rod and they probably will do about the same with either. A lot of it depends on who's hands the rod is in.There is so much more sensitivity and feel in an expensive rod, but like mags said it depends on the technique too. Sensitivity doesn't really matter that much casting a worm under a bobber compared to something like dropshotting where the bite can be the slightest tick of the line that you probably wouldn't feel on a cheaper rod. To each his own nothing against people who love ugly sticks and lightening rods and nothing against people who love Dobyns or JDM rods. Oh and on the baseball comparison give a hitter like Albert Puljos one of those top of the line aluminum or composite bats and he'd probably launch the ball 700 feet just saying lol. To each his own cane pole to custom built rod fishing is fishing no matter how you do it.

It's amazing how anglers are always easier to catch than fish.

I have a glx I used for shaky head and drop shot but lately I have been using a shimano crucial and can't seem to put it down. I think use a rod that you are comfortable with and that fits you good that is all that matters!

We can't start selling the new NRX rods until August 16th. There are Bass spinning and casting rods and a full line of fly rods from freshwater to salt and a few spey models. From everyone I've talked to, these rods are lighter and faster than glx models and more durable. The pricing is slightly north of GLX.
