How I make a Grip

A couple guys asked how the Grips were made on my Custom Rods at Oil Creek so I thought I would throw a few picture up

First thing I do is pick out the rings I want to use

This Grip called for 15 rings

6 Natural Cork 1/2" 

2 Burnt Burl 1/4"

7 Assorted 1/2" Burl Rings



I then glue them up a on waxed 1/4" all thread with 2 part epoxy



Then they get clamped in the Jig I made for at least 12 hours



After 12 hours I transfer the grip to a Turning Mandrel for the lathe and head out to the shop to turn on the Lathe



And here is the finished product ready to fit to the blank



This Full Wells Grip is for a 4 PC 9' 5 Wt

    Nice reel to match .... I love my ROSS evolution in copper gonna buy a couple more of those reels ! PM some options / prices for a 10.5ft 7 wt like to have by October
