New York Fishing License ?

I have a quick question that may be easy to answer. When does the NYS fishing license year begin? Like in PA its Jan-Jan. I saw somewhere that new fees started Oct 1, does that mean thats when it starts? Just don't want to get the short straw and buy back to back licenses. Thanks guys.

    They go from October fisrt through September 30th!
